Fujairah Fort

Fujairah Fort, built in 1670, was badly damaged by a British in the early 20th C. Considered the oldest fort in the UAE, it has served as a defensive building and a home for the ruling family. The Fujairah Fort is a mud brick structure with three major sections, several halls, one square tower and two round towers. The fort has been renovated and restored to its former glory. For many centuries it was the only stone building along the Fujairah coast. Located on a hill at the edge of date gardens, the Fujairah Fort is surrounded by the remains of some old town houses. Fujairah - Masafi

Masafi is a village located on the edge of the Hajar Mountains near Fujairah. It was a trading post and refueling stop before the modern highways were built in the 1970s. The village is actually divided in to two parts with the larger section belonging to the emirate of Fujairah and the smaller belonging to the emirate of Ras al Khaimah. The name "Masafi" is Arabic for "pure water"; the village is well known for its natural springs. In fact Masafi is also the name of the Gulf's leading natural mineral water producer, which is located near the village. A market, called the Friday Market even thought it is open seven days a week, is found on the Dubai-Fujairah Road as you approach Masafi. The main items to bargain for are rugs, earthenware, antiques and souvenirs.

Fujairah Heritage Village

Fujairah Heritage Village is close to the Ain Madhab gardens, and portrays the traditional life of the people of the Emirates. Exhibits include traditional houses, cooking utensils, farming tools and other items as well as the AlYazrah system used for irrigating fields, which uses a working bull. The village is open all day; every day and entry is free.

Fujairah Wadis

Fujairah is well known for its Wadis due to the geological topography of the area. Wadis are dry riverbeds that contain water after a heavy rain, in Arabic it can also mean oasis. Tourists can enjoy Wadi Bashing. Wadi Siji, Wadi Saham, Wadi Mai and many other wadis. Wadi Ham is the largest and longest, springing from Masafi area. Wadi Al Tawian is reached through a mountain route. Wadi Siji reaches to Al Zaid and Umm al-Quwain. Dhaid is an oasis town that is located at the entrance to Wadi Siji. The rainwater that collected as run-off from the mountains created the oasis. Wadi Al Wurayah is a major tourist attraction north of Fujairah. This scenic area includes the Al Wurayah waterfalls. Wadi Al Hail is a famous wadi.

Ain Al Madhab Gardens

Ain Al Madhab Gardens These gardens are situated in a valley in the foothills of the Hajar mountains, just outside Fujairah City, and are fed by mineral springs. This warm sulphur laden water is also used in two swimming pools available for ladies and for men. On public holidays, an outdoor theatre is used for festivals, which include traditional singing and folklore dances. The opening times are 10 am to 11 pm (closed Saturday).

Fujairah Museum

The Fujairah Museum is located south of the Fort, opposite the Ruler's Palace. Displays at the Fujairah Museum include artifacts found in archeological digs at Qidfa and Bithnah. Local and foreign archeologists have uncovered items dating back to early Bronze Age, over 4,500 years ago. Exhibits at the Fujariah Museum include pieces made of bronze, steel, brass, silver and gold. Bronze and Iron Age weapons, painted pottery, carved soapstone vessels and pre-Islamic silver coins. The latest addition to the displays is Herbs and Folkloric Medicine. An exquisite discovery in Qadfaa during archeological excavations is an ostrich's egg dating back 2200 years. The egg was used by local ancestors as a bowl and is still in very good.

Al-Bidyah Mosque

Experts give the most varied estimations of how old it actually is – between 1,300 years (beginning of Islamization) and 800 years. The building, which was most likely named after its sponsor Othman Masjid Al-Othmani , is not tall and has a floor space of only several square yards. The modest looking white-washed mosque is characterized by its four low domes, supported only by a single pillar. A double-winged wooden entry door, leads to the house of prayer. Visits to the mosque are possible.North of the mosque, the ruins of the Badiyah Fort are visible in the mountains.
