Pico Ruivo is the highest peak on Madeira Island. It can be reached only by foot, usually either from Pico do Arieiro after a strenuous hike, or from Achada do Teixeira via a shorter, easier trail. There is an additional trail leading west to Encumeada. Pico Ruivo is 1,861 metres high and provides panoramic views of the island from coast to coast.

The Pico do Areeiro Viewpoint, located at 1818 meters, provides a fantastic view of the central mountains of Madeira Island. Pico do Areeiro Viewpoint is located at the second highest point on Madeira Island, at 1,818 meters above sea level. From this viewpoint there is an excellent panoramic view of the central mountains of Madeira Island. This is also the starting point for one of the most spectacular trails to the archipelago’s highest point, Pico Ruivo, at 1,862 meters.

The Fanal Forest is located in Porto Moniz County nearby Paul da Serra plateau.

Located in the Municipality of Calheta, to the west of the Island, a little over 20 minutes from Funchal, the Casa das Mudas Art Gallery represents, one of the most important investments made by Sociedade de Desenvolvimento Ponta do Oeste, S.A. Its singularity, starting by the architecture of the building, serves its purpose: raise awareness and interest in the public for art in general and modern art in particular. To reach this goal, the Sociedade de Desenvolvimento Ponta do Oeste is developing a program of activities with the hopes of diversifying the cultural agenda in Madeira, such as temporary exhibitions, theatre, dance, film and workshops among others. This space, dedicated to art and culture, was only possible thanks to the Regional Governments’ vision of defending public interest and believing in the role that culture has to play as a governance element and its importance as a social cement and space for participation. The intentional location, of Casa das Mudas, deepens the concept of decentralization and democratization of access to culture in a space that should be open and in permanent construction.

The São Jorge Ruins are located next to the São Jorge beach. These ruins belong to the old mills of sugarcane that there were built in the early settlement of the island.

Fábrica Santo António is the oldest confectionery factory in Madeira, dating back to 1893. Here you’ll find a variety of traditional treats. Take a peek inside, and maybe buy a packet or two of Madeiran biscuits or sweets.

The Garajau Cristo Rei Statue is located in the Cristo Rei Viewpoint with a magnificent view of the Garajau Beach
