More
The Marine is one of the southern hemisphere's most spectacular seaside Relais & Châteaux properties. Perched on the cliffs, overlooking Hermanus' Walker Bay, The Marine boasts 40 individually decorated bedrooms and suites. This unforgettable property overlooks South Africa's most pristine whale sanctuary, and it is just a stone's throw from one of the greatest densities of the endangered Great White Shark, and selection of fynbos species in the Cape. The Marine offers guests the unique opportunity to experience the finest land-based whale watching in the world. From June to November guests are able to view these majestic creatures from the comfort of their beautiful sea view room. The attention to detail is apparent in every aspect of this remarkable owner managed property - from the personal service to the exceptional cuisine which is overseen by Relais & Châteaux Grand Chef, Peter Tempelhoff, the perfect-for-sundowners Sun Lounge and the in-house Carchele Beauty Spa. Each piece of The Marine story adds another element to an unforgettable stay.

Additional Information
SeaFood at The Marine The more playful counterpart to SeaFood at The Plettenberg, SeaFood at The Marine offers diners a contemporary, fresh approach to seafood, all the while incorporating flavours inherent to the Overberg region. Dishes, reflecting the culinary flair for which Peter Tempelhoff and his team are known, reflect the myriad ingredients available in the Overberg. Sustainably caught seafood is presented in surprising ways, and traditional dishes are recreated with sophistication and finesse. The Rich Man’s Fish & Chips, served with a tomato salsa and paired with a crisp white wine from the Walker Bay area, is a perfect example of this. The Pavilion Overlooking the cliffs of Hermanus and surrounds, The Pavilion honours the bountiful Overberg region. As with all of the restaurants under the umbrella of The Collection by Liz McGrath, The Pavilion displays a distinctive regional identity. The menu’s delicate and intricate dishes, paired perfectly with locally produced wines, reflect the Overberg and its distinct flavours and terroir. The centrepiece of the restaurant’s interior is the glass wine cellar. Centrally situated, it demands the attention of the guests, appearing to make the individual bottles float under the twinkling,star-like LED ceiling lights. The Pavilion also serves as the breakfast room at The Marine. An incredible spread of fresh fruit and freshly-baked patisserie confections are laid out each morning, and hot breakfast options are served a la carte. The Pavilion is open for dinner five nights a week (Tuesday to Saturday), and with the possibility of spotting a whale from your table between June and December, breakfast is a great idea any day of the week. The Sun Lounge Overlooking the incredible Walker Bay, The Sun Lounge at The Marine in Hermanus is the ideal spot to enjoy drinks and snacks while searching the waters for resident and visiting marine life. The relaxed sophistication of The Sun Lounge is complemented by the wide variety of South African wines, sparkling wines, signature cocktails and delectable eats. A visit to The Sun Lounge is ideal for afternoon tea or early-evening drinks, enjoyed with the views of the surrounding cliffs and bay.
