Huatulco, Mexico Meeting Planning Overview

Huatulco, a resort destination on Mexico's Pacific coast, is comprised of 9 pristine bays with a total of 36 beaches. With the beautiful Sierra Madre Mountains as a backdrop, the Huatulco area is surrounded by an ecological reserve and some of its bays offer great opportunities for snorkeling and diving. The world-class hotels, infrastructure and meeting venues in Huatulco are designed to offer luxury in an unspoiled tropical environment, making it an excellent destination for medium-sized conferences, executive retreats and weddings.

Located 180 miles south of the capital city of Oaxaca (in the state of the same name), Huatulco is very accessible via the Huatulco International Airport (HUX), which has flights serving a number of national destinations, as well as flights to and from Chicago, Denver, Houston, Milwaukee and 7 Canadian destinations. The airport is located 16 miles from the Huatulco bay area, which also has a dock for cruise ships. The La Crucita bus station, located on Gardenia Street, is served by a few major bus companies (OCC, Estrella Blanca) and offers service to and from most major Mexican cities.

Hotel venues in Huatulco include the 42-room Dreams Huatulco Resort & Spa, which sits on an exclusive beachfront property in Tangolunga Bay. Aside from its 6 bars and pools, several gourmet restaurants, a spa and gym, the Dreams Huatulco offers several event facilities, including a theater, a business center and event spaces for up to 400 people. Alternatively, the Las Brisas Huatulco offers 335 luxury rooms and suites, and 10 conference rooms with a hosting capacity for 800 people. The resort's 6 restaurants can cater cocktails of up to 1,500 people and the facilities offer a variety of alternative event spaces and entertainment options.

Activities in Huatulco largely focus around the water: boat trips and catamaran rides to the various bays can be organized for groups, and diving, snorkeling, surfing, fishing and sea kayaking are popular activities. Huatulco's bays offer some pristine, uninhabited beaches on which to relax.

Excursions by horseback along the beach or in the tropical forest are available at Rancho Caballo de Mar, and the Tangolunga Golf Club offers visitors an 18-hole, 72-par golf course.

Among leisure venues in Huatulco, the Copalito archaeological zone, which contains ancient Zapotec, Mixtec and Chontales ruins, is located only 15 minutes away from the hotel zone. In addition, Huatulco's many tour agencies offer a plethora of adventure and eco-tourism opportunities, such as canyoneering, rafting, bird watching, hikes to waterfalls, bike rides and visits to coffee plantations.
