Cooper Lake is a 19,000 acre impoundment originally created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and currently managed by Texas Parks and Wildlife. Four boat ramps, John's Creek, Tira, Doctor's Creek and South Sulphur, are open to the public. The park is made up of the Doctor's Creek and South Sulphur units; use of each is subject to an entrance fee.
Excellent fishing in beautiful surroundings is the number one reason for visiting Cooper Lake. Trophy Largemouth Bass share the lake with large catfish (blues and flatheads), crappie and several other game fish. The current lake record for Largemouth is 15.17 lbs.
