Art in the Hills

Recreation
With a new dawn rising for Philippine contemporary art, The Peninsula Academy will arrange for curious minds or art enthusiasts like yourself to go on a private guided tour of Pinto Gallery, the Silangan Gardens and Pinto Art Museum. To make it a unique and lively experience, your tour starts at Pinto Gallery with refreshments served at Silangan Gardens. From there, your guide will take you to the capilla (chapel) with its antique santos (saints) and then on a short walk down the hillside compound to the museum. The “Art in the Hills” tour comes to a close with a chilled glass of Deutz Peninsula Champagne in hand, as well as a greater appreciation for contemporary Philippine art.

Ayala Museum

Museum
3 minutes away
Ayala Museum, located at the heart of the Makati Central Business District, Philippines, is a breathing space amidst the hustle and bustle of Metropolitan Manila. Whenever visiting the country’s capital, the museum is surely one of the best places to lose yourself in amazing contemporary art and uplift your spirit through the Philippines’ inspiring history. Among the museum’s highlights is its collection of archeological artifacts, notably the Gold of Ancestors: Pre-Colonial Treasures in the Philippines, which serve as a testament to the Filipinos’ rich ancestry and inherent craftsmanship. The museum also has on view The Philippine Diorama Experience, visually narrating the many milestones of Philippine history through 60 handcrafted dioramas, some of which are featured in the international Google Art Project. Ayala Museum also features 9th- to 16th-century Asian trade ceramics from the Roberto T. Villanueva Foundation in the exhibition A Millennium of Contact; and Art and the Order of Nature in Indigenous Philippine Textiles, a unique showcase of indigenous Philippine textiles donated by Mercedes Zobel with corresponding analyses from the artists of the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts in the UK. Ayala Museum regularly calendars various programs on history, contemporary art, music and design, including temporary exhibitions, lectures, artist/curator’s talks, workshops and performances. Included in its program line-up are Pioneers of Philippine Art, showcasing the paintings of Philippine masters: Juan Luna, Fernando Amorsolo and Fernando Zobel; Images of Nation, gathering works of Philippine National Artists in the visual arts; History Comes Alive with Prof. Ambeth Ocampo, a highly entertaining and insightful take on various historical topics; The Rush Hour Concerts featuring the Manila Symphony Orchestra in enchanting nights of live classical music, and ST’ART, introducing children to various artistic styles and the pioneers behind them through fun arts and crafts workshops. More

The Peninsula Manila is a landmark hotel that has been a destination in its own right since opening in 1976. There are few hotels in the capital with as rich and colorful a history as that of The Peninsula’s, where a long list of VIPs have stepped into its imposing, classic lobby—an architectural gem that best exemplifies the city’s glamorous side—and enjoyed its legendary hospitality. And true to its reputation, when Forbes Travel Guide – the gold standard in the international hospitality industry since 1958 – put out its full list of winners, The Peninsula Manila was named a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star hotel, the only hotel in the principal central business districts of Makati and Bonifacio Global City to make it to this coveted list. The addition of Manila to the list marked The Peninsula Hotel’s unprecedented achievement of being the first and only hotel brand to achieve the highest possible Forbes Travel Guide rating for all its ten hotels, making it a historic Perfect Ten. We have also just concluded a soft renovation of our guest rooms, which now feature a brighter, lighter palette of cool blues and grays that further complement the timeless Filipino character of the hotel. Other enhancements include Nespresso coffee machines in all our guest rooms, as well as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology that allows you to make international calls free of charge. While staying at the hotel, you may also dine at any of our exceptional restaurants—award-winning Old Manila which serves Contemporary Market Cuisine, Filipino classics at our iconic Lobby, Escolta with its extensive buffet selections, or Southeast Asian specialties in Spices. Drinks can be enjoyed either in Salon de Ning or The Bar which was named one of the 50 Best Bars in the World by Forbes Travel Guide.
