Malta Meeting Planning Overview

Malta, an archipelago of three small islands at the center of the Mediterranean, is an English-speaking community with an amazing history: St. Paul was shipwrecked here in AD 60; in 1565 the Knights of St John withheld the might of the Ottoman Empire during the Great Siege; and between 1942 and 1944 Malta withstood the might of the Axis powers. It has always been a highly strategic location, equidistant as it is between Europe and North Africa and straddling the sea routes to the Middle East. Today, this proximity serves the meeting venues in Malta well, since the location is ideal for international conferences and business meetings.

Malta International Airport is located just 3 miles from the city of Valleta and Air Malta connects the island with all of the major airports in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. The island is also a major cruise ship destination, with excellent ferry services to Sicily and other Mediterranean ports.

Malta regularly hosts EU conferences and other major political events utilizing a range of modern hotels and a wonderful variety of castles, palazzos and forts which provide excellent facilities for corporate hospitality events and business receptions.

Convention venues in Malta include the 16th-century Mediterranean Conference Centre which can host meetings for up to 1,400 delegates, the 400-year-old Villa Mdina which has facilities for up to 600 guests and the stunning Maltese Palazzo, a favorite venue for international conference and incentive groups at the highest level. There are also several outdoor and arena-type venues, ranging in size from the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre, the island's largest conference and events venue capable of hosting 10,000 seated or 22,000 standing, to intimate historic courtyard venues such as the Palazzo Falson and Villa Arrigo and a range of amazing museums castles, forts and palaces especially in the vicinity of the Grand Harbour of Valletta, Malta's capital city.

Hotel venues in Malta feature no less than thirteen 5 Star and forty 4 Star convention properties; these include the 426-room Excelsior Grand Hotel, the 404-room Hilton Malta, the 451-room InterContinental Malta, the 90-room Grand Hotel Gozo and the 340-room Westin Dragonara Resort - to name but a few!

The principal cultural centers are Valletta, Mdina and Rabat where many museums, churches and heritage sites celebrate the Island's remarkable history and where splendid theaters and concert halls provide a very full range of musical and theatrical performances, year round. These are also the main shopping and restaurant areas and the Valletta Waterfront is full of harbor-facing bars, seafood restaurants and other fine eating establishments, as well as outdoor music venues and street performers.
