Metrolink
Metrolink trams run between Manchester Piccadilly and the city center. Currently undergoing a £1billion investment program, the system is getting an overhaul that will result in new trams, new tracks, new ticket machines and station improvements. It will also eventually set up a connection to Manchester Airport.
Metrolink tickets can be purchased from ticket vending machines on the platforms, starting at £1.20 for a return journey between Piccadilly and the city center. Fares vary based on type and distance traveled.
Manchester Buses
Several commercial bus operators serve the greater Manchester area. Every bus station provides a list of the services using the station, and timetables can be obtained from local Travelshops, by mail from GMPTE or by phone at 0871 200 22 33.
Together, buses link guests to points of interest in and around the city. Late night buses, which run Friday and Saturday night until around 3:30 AM, serve Manchester Piccadilly Gardens, Shudehill Interchange and other downtown Manchester shops.

Metroshuttle is a free bus service operating in the city center. Offering three circular routes (orange, green and purple), the service takes guests to car parking areas, bus stations and tram stops around the city's top attractions.
Metroshuttle generally operates Monday through Saturday from 7 AM to 7 PM and Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM. The orange line runs every five minutes and the green and purple lines run every 10 minutes.
Rental Cars
Manchester Airport has partnered with Europcar to offer rental services to passengers. Rental counters can be found at all three terminals.
Taxis
Hackney Cabs, or taxis, are also available outside all three terminals of Manchester International Airport. Traditional black cabs can accommodate up to five adults.
Fares are shown on the meter inside the taxi, and it's customary to tip about 10 percent of the fare for a satisfactory ride. The friendly drivers have great local knowledge, so guests should feel free to ask their advice on what Manchester has to offer.
