More

Morocco – an intoxicating mix of colours, sounds, scents and flavours that entices upon first visit and seduces you to a second one, leaving you yearning for more. Be touched by Angsana hospitality at its finest in a brand new collection of chic luxury retreats that epitomise the beauty of Moroccan culture. These gorgeous riads are architectural beauties that have been lovingly restored and embellished with traditional artwork. A blend of contemporary elegance and historical charm make the Angsana Riads Collection an ideal locale to rejuvenate the soul, leaving you with memories to last a lifetime. Riad Si Said Dating back to 1880, the magnificent Riad Si Said was built by a wealthy Marrakechi family in the style of the era of Orientalism. The heart of this property is an airy courtyard garden with stunning zellij (hand-made ceramic mosaic floors and walls), surrounded by three beautifully furnished lounges with fireplaces. Immerse yourself in a book about fascinating Morocco from the well-stocked lounge library; or take a dip in your private turquoise tiled pool. Riad Blanc On hot afternoons, the trickling fountain and deep shadows bring a welcome cool to the sugar-white interior courtyard of Riad Blanc (“White Riad” in French), an intimate, elegant riad that is reminiscent of the famous perched white villages of Andalucia in southern Spain. Elaborate wrought iron railings and window grills, potted palms and orange trees, and a turquoise-tiled plunge pool also evoke the sensual languor and Moroccan roots of Andalucia. One of the most distinctive features of Riad Blanc is its duplex roof terrace where you will be able to bask in the sun on cotton canvas covered lounge beds and while the day away. Riad Dar Zaouia In the heart of the Old Medina near the historic Bahia Palace and Dar Si Said Museum, tucked away just a stroll from the famous Djemaa el Fna square, is the latest addition to the Angsana Riads Collection, the Riad Dar Zaouia. Riad Dar Zaouia means ‘a place of retreat’ in Arabic, created for those seeking intimate, romantic surroundings in a quiet place of refined, relaxed elegance. This lovely, aristocratic 19th century mansion has been gently restored to its former glory, using traditional techniques and the talents of local craftsmen and artisans. Riad Tiwaline Absolute privacy awaits you in this discreet riad tucked in a 14th century alley located in the Riad Zitoune quarter. Splendidly preserved, the heart and soul of this riad is encapsulated in the warm cedar woodwork replete with intricate Berber motifs. Delicate touches are seen in the smallest of details, such as in the wrought iron window lattice work. Be spellbound by the fine artistry of traditional Moroccan motifs and artifacts as the murmur of fountains greets you. This sleek, contemporary riad is truly a feast for the tiwaline (eyes). Riad Bab Firdaus With a central courtyard ornamented with stunning gabs (picked honey-comb-like plaster work) and tagguebasts (cornices of sculpted plaster) around its central columns, Riad Bab Firdaus (“Gateway to Heaven,” in Arabic) is the spa-lover’s choice. The hammam boasts a barrel-vaulted brick ceiling, completing the sense of enchantment and mystery. In addition to a roof top sun deck, Riad Bab Firdaus features a Thai restaurant in the courtyard, available for lunch and dinner. Riad Lydines This unique Moorish house is restored entirely by traditional craftsmen, working by hand. To reflect this, the name ‘Lydines’ means ‘hands’ and is a splendid example of traditional Moroccan architecture. Ideally located in the ancient Kasbah, or palace quarter of the Old Medina and within walking distance of the Royal Palace and Saadian Tombs, Angsana Lydines is a dramatic and stylish choice of accommodation.
