Known for its shopping, dining and recreation, Mission Valley stretches to Interstate 5 on the west and Interstate 15 on the east in San Diego. The area has a fascinating history as it is where the Spanish first settled in California back in the late 18th century. Remnants of the past still remain, including the Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcala, Presidio Park and Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, all of which are on the National Register of Historic Places. The Mission Valley meeting venues of Hotel Circle, numerous restaurants and major attractions, such as Qualcomm Stadium, Fashion Valley Mall and more keep this destination top of mind with meeting planners.
San Diego International Airport is the main gateway to this part of Southern California, and lies than 10 miles from Mission Valley. Shuttles frequently transfer visitors to Hotel Circle, which is distinctly known for its array of accommodations, including the Courtyard San Diego Mission Valley, Town and Country Resort San Diego and the Handlery Hotel and Resort, among others. Altogether, the Mission Valley area has more than 8,000 guest rooms.
The San Diego Convention Center, located in downtown San Diego, is just minutes away from Mission Valley. Meeting professionals also have access to Mission Valley venues for their groups. Along with the many traditional spaces available at the hotels, planners may also consider Qualcomm Stadium—home to the San Diego Chargers—for their events. There are several facilities within the venue for gatherings, including conference rooms, executive suites, four restaurants and lounges spanning 4,200 square feet with a capacity for 400 guests, two End Zone Clubs—each 3,500 square feet with a 250 capacity—and a total of 150 acres of land for special events. Featuring over 28,000 square feet of space, including meeting, banquet and trade show areas, the Scottish Rite Event Center on Camino del Rio South can accommodate groups of from 20 for a reception to 1,040 guests in a theater-style setting.
Group dinners can be arranged at one of the many Mission Valley venues and restaurants that feature private dining rooms. La Gran Terraza, located on the campus of the University of San Diego, can accommodate parties of up to 300, which includes indoor and outdoor seating with views of Mission Bay and Tecolote. Bully's East Restaurant, known for its prime rib, seafood and ribs, features a Jockey Room ideal for up to 25 people, the Patio for 40 guests and a Sports Lounge with a capacity of 30.
Visitors would be remiss if they did not indulge in a little retail therapy at one of the main shopping centers: Fashion Valley Center or Westfield Mission Valley. Other alternatives for fun that are not too far away are SeaWorld and Mission Bay.
