Approximate taxi fare: $48-$50 USD
Located midway between New Orleans and Mobile, AL along Interstate 10, the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport is served by seven commercial airlines connecting 2,000 flights throughout the United States and internationally. Constructed in 1942 to train flight crews for WWII, the airport is rich in military aeronautical history. The grand opening of the expansion was held in 2008 with the airport increasing its capacity to 2.4 million passengers annually. Investment in the airport five years after Katrina totaled $287 million including $147 million of private investment. The new air traffic control tower is scheduled to open in 2012.
Amenities include a USO Gulf Coast facility for members of the military and their families, skycaps, free Wi-Fi, computer work stations, newsstand with snacks and gifts, and meeting rooms. Short - and long-term parking is available, with free shuttle service to and from the lots.
