...Situated on the site of the jail where 53 illegally kidnapped Africans were imprisoned in 1839, this majestic memorial is a startling tribute to New Haven's role in the anti-slavery movement. Located right in front of New Haven's City Hall, the towering 14-foot relief statue cast in bronze was sculpted in 1992 by Ed Hamilton.
Each side of the memorial highlights an aspect of Sengbe Pieh (also known as Joseph Cinque) and his fellow captive's historic ordeal. Visitors can gaze up at the striking memorial and witness the artists' rendering of the capture, trial and subsequent return home.

While at Beardsley, visitors can take a tropical trek through the South American rainforest, wander through a Victorian greenhouse, or take a spin on the carousel. Visitors can also get up close and personal with goats, pigs and sheep at the New England Farmyard, or hike the Hoofstock Trail for views of bison, pronghorn and deer.
Set on 52 acres of lush parkland, the Beardsley Zoo offers several scenic spaces for private functions including the elegant Victorian Greenhouse and charming Picnic Grove. The zoo is open daily from 9 AM to 4 PM. Admission is $9 for children ages 3-11, $11 for adults and $9 for seniors. Discounted rates are available to non-profit groups of 10 or more people with advanced reservations.

...Housed in a recently renovated building in the Town Green District, the Connecticut Children's Museum invites children to learn through hands-on discovery. Designed to reflect Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences, the museum is home to eight different themed rooms that highlight the different ways in which children learn. Kids can enjoy the flutter of butterflies and the buzzing of bees in the Naturalist Room, or step into the re-created great green room of the Goodnight Moon storybook in the museum's Linguistic Room. Other highlights include a miniature cityscape dollhouse depicting New Haven, musical instruments from around the world, and a chalkboard house where children can draw on windows and doors.
The Connecticut Children's Museum is open Friday and Saturday from noon to 5 PM. Admission is $5 per person.

Visitors roam through the museum's four permanent galleries and view exhibits such as Cinque Lives Here: Amistad Artifacts in the Collections of the New Haven Museum and Historical Society. The largest collection of Amistad-related artwork in the world, the Cinque Lives Here Exhibit is a captivating window into the events of the famous 1839 revolt. In addition to the four permanent galleries, three temporary galleries host traveling exhibitions.
The New Haven Museum and Historical Society makes an elegant backdrop of art and history for private events. Groups can meet in the 1,313-square-foot auditorium or the 650-square-foot education center. The museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM and Saturday from noon to 5 PM. Admission is $2 for children, $4 for adults and $3 for seniors. Admission for children under 3 is free.
