Portobelo is located on the north coast of the Isthmus of Panama, about 50 km northeast of Colon city. One of the most important buildings at that time was La Aduana. Built between 1630 and 1634, its structure reflected the Renaissance model, brought by the Spaniards in these lands. This building was used as a warehouse, tax office, the real deposit boxes, residence of the governor and royal officials. Today, the ruins of Customs are in good condition as it was rebuilt and reused as a museum, where objects from the Spanish era have been found in recent archaeological research shows.
