Local Attractions

St. Anne Church

Historical landmark
3 hours away
St. Anne’s Church is best known as the centre of pilgrimage for the annual St. Anne’s Feast in Malaysia. It started out as a small chapel built by visiting priest Fr. Adolphe Couellan in 1846. Today it is a sprawling complex, able to seat up to 1,800, with beautiful stained glass windows. Named after St. Anne (mother of the Virgin Mary), the celebrations held here in July every year for St. Anne’s Feast draw Roman Catholics from all over Peninsular Malaysia, bringing the generally sleepy town of Bukit Mertajam to life. The event culminates with two nights of candlelit procession with devotees singing hymns as they walk on and around the church grounds. (Sourced from : Penang by Hotels.com. Batu Ferringhi Beach

Recreation
2 hours away
One of Penang’s most popular destinations (in fact, it’s the second most popular destination after Georgetown), Batu Ferringhi consists of a long stretch of soft, white sandy beach along a winding road named Jalan Batu Ferringhi, filled with a host of accommodation and dining options. Its night market is quite legendary, while its waters are popular spots for a range of water sports activities such as jet-skiing, parasailing and windsurfing. (Sourced from : Penang by Hotels.com. Penang War Musuem

Museum
2 hours away
Penang War Museum in Bukit Batu Maung was a fort built by the British in the 1930s. In 1941 it gained fame when it became the site where the battle for Penang against the invading Japanese army was lost. These days it is a museum open to the public and is billed as Southeast Asia’s largest war museum. Situated on the road to Teluk Kumbar on Penang’s southern coast, the fort was initially supposed to be a preserved citadel constructed as part of a plan to protect the island from foreign invasion. It is also known as Muzium Perang Pulau Pinang. (Sourced from : Penang by Hotels.com. Read more at: http://www.penang.ws/penang-attractions/war-museum.htm?cid=ch:OTH:001)

Apart from fishes, there are also a display of different types of corals and sea anemones. There are two large ponds in the aquarium which filled with a big school of sprightly koi or carps. Visitors can feed the koi with fish food that is available there for only RM1. Visitors can too, feed the turtles in one of the ponds. Besides, there is a souvenir shop there where you can purchase t-shirts, key chain and etc. The aquarium is opened daily except Wednesdays. (Sourced from : Visit Malaysia. Penang Hill

Park
1 hour away
Penang Hill was the first colonial hill station developed in Peninsular Malaysia. Comprising Western Hill, Bukit Laksamana, Tiger Hill, Flagstaff Hill and Government Hill, it is located six km away from Georgetown. The hilly and forested area is the state's primary hill resort. Set 821m above Penang’s capital, islanders call it Bukit Bendera and it is generally about five degrees cooler than Georgetown. It is the last patch of tropical rainforest in Penang so the flora and fauna here have been protected since 1960. It does not have the same prominence as Genting Highlands, Fraser’s Hill or Cameron Highlands but it is one of Penang’s best-known tourist attractions due to its fresher climate.
