Approximately 40 miles north of Johannesburg, Pretoria is the capital of South Africa but within the nation is often called Tshwane. Go there at the right time of year, and the city will be purple due to the thousands of jacaranda trees planted in nearly every one of its numerous green spaces. While the city is known for government and, increasingly, business, it does have tourism attractions, including several prominent museums that double as Pretoria event venues.
