When you head out on vacation, you're typically looking to escape suburbia. You're trying to find a change of pace from your day-to-day routine. Stay in Rockville or North Bethesda and you'll see that it's far from a sleepy suburb. Numerous shopping destinations, dining options, and historical and recreational attractions, all concentrated along “the Pike,” make this area one of Montgomery County, Maryland's main centers of activity.
The city of Rockville occupies 13 square miles of the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. In addition to being an upscale retail hub, the community is built along the Interstate 270 corridor, which is home to several government institutions and software and biotechnology companies. Convening in Rockville meeting venues means attendees will be equidistant from three major airports and in a location that offers significant value, thanks to its proximity to Washington while in a suburban setting.
Rockville is bounded by the neighboring Montgomery County communities of Bethesda, Gaithersburg, Silver Spring, Chevy Chase, and Germantown. Maryland's Route 355, also known as Rockville Pike, is the major transportation artery of the area, linking the city to Washington. Amtrak serves Rockville directly, and most hotels offer shuttle service to the nearest Metrorail station, if they aren't already directly accessible to one. Town Square is bustling year-round with special events, and the Red Line of the Metro transports visitors and in and out of the city on a regular basis.
A world of ethnic cuisine is available throughout Rockville, with Lebanese, Chinese, Italian, Cuban, Greek, and Japanese restaurants to satisfy your taste buds. Enjoy a beer at Finnegan's Wake Irish Pub, or take in the rustic charm of Clyde's at Tower Oaks Lodge. Or you can grab a pint at True Respite Brewing Company after taking a Grain to Glass tour, which includes a detailed production tour, sensory analysis of beers currently in production, and a guided tasting.
No matter the season, Rockville Town Square has a calendar full of community events. In the summer, bring the family for a free concert or an outdoor movie, and in the winter, slip on your ice skates at the outdoor rink. Hometown Holidays, featuring the Taste of Rockville, is held each year during Memorial Day weekend. The fun-filled festival includes live music, vendors, and lots of great local food!
Adventure seekers will love the Go Ape! treetop zip line course in Rock Creek Regional Park. For a unique challenge, try the skateboard zip line and the park's two Tarzan swings!
With three Metro stations and multiple Capital Bikeshare locations, traveling throughout Rockville is a breeze. For shopping, dining, and entertainment, enjoy a walk through the newly developed Pike & Rose or the Historic Rockville Town Square.
Rockville Town Center and Pike & Rose are pedestrian-oriented shopping and dining districts with friendly streetscapes and a community feel. Groups can stroll around and dine in their choice of ethnically diverse restaurants. Outdoor enthusiasts might seek out Glen Echo Park, the C&O Canal trail, or Beall-Dawson Park. Business and transient travelers alike will enjoy the well-conditioned grounds that make up Needwood Golf Course, the perfect way to unwind after a week of meetings or sightseeing.
