San Francisco International Airport, CA Meeting Planning Overview

SFO offers a wide variety of travel options to passengers, with 34 international carriers serving 30 international points, as well as 15 domestic airlines offering nonstop service to 78 cities in the United States. Among airports in the Bay Area, SFO continues to be the airport of choice for both domestic and international flights. The airport is ideally situated on San Francisco Bay in the heart of Northern California's biotech region. The amount of traffic in and out of the airport has given rise to a number of hotels and event venues near SFO.

For attendees flying into SFO, ground transportation options are many. Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system connects SFO to San Francisco, San Mateo County and the East Bay. BART connects SFO to the Caltrain rail system at the Millbrae station and rental cars, shared vans, and taxis are readily available.

Event venues in the San Francisco airport area include the award-winning South San Francisco Conference Center. With more than 20,500 total square feet, the center can accommodate as many as 1,200 in its Grand Ballroom or an intimate reception for 60 in one of its 10 meeting rooms. Its four-story atrium has 6,300 square feet of space and can host up to 450.

Hotels surrounding SFO feature event venues for gatherings of any size. The 789-room Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport hotel's award-winning conference center offers 55,000 square feet of flexible space for meetings up to 2,000. The Embassy Suites SFO offers 12,000 square feet of meeting space. The San Francisco Airport Marriott Waterfront features 685 guest rooms and nearly 28,000 square feet of event space in 24 meeting rooms, and the 393-room Westin San Francisco Airport has a 5,133-square-foot ballroom, as well as eight other meeting rooms.

Smaller, more intimate event venues near SFO also provide fantastic settings for meetings and conferences. Planners don't need to set foot outside the airport to take advantage of the SFO Museum's event venues, spanning over 7,000 square feet and capable of hosting up to 250 guests. Historic Kohl Mansion offers uniquely San Francisco event venues with its 1,500-square-foot Great Hall, 900-square-foot Library and elegant Dining Room. After a day of meetings at these SFO venues, attendees can ride BART into downtown San Francisco for an unforgettable dinner in Chinatown or a performance by one of the city's world-famous opera, ballet or symphony companies.
