Plaza de España and María Luisa Park

Historical landmark
15 minutes away
The Plaza de España was built because of the Ibero-american Exhibition of 1929, held in Seville. He mixed a style inspired by the Renaissance with typical elements from the city: exposed brick, ceramics and wrought iron. Its floor plan is semicircular and painted ceramic benches representing all the provinces in Spain are arranged round the square. Maria Luisa Park is Seville's great urban park designed by the French landscape gardener Forestier for the Ibero-american Exhibition in 1929. A large part of its squares, circuses and monuments are dedicated to national literary figures, like Bécquer or Cervantes, and undoubtedly one of its characteristics is the widespread use of fountains, ponds and furniture made from brick and ceramic tiles. Enjoy a ride on a horse-drawn carriage or a bike ride through the park to discover the beauty of this large urban park. Picture from spain.info.es

Semana Santa y la Feria

Recreation
In Spring, the two most important traditional events of the Sevillan culture take place: the Holy Week (la Semana Santa) and the Sevilla Fair (la Feria). The Holy Week is celabrated during the week leading up to Easter. During the entire week, processions of "pasos" parade throughout the city streets on the rhythm of the traditional music band and carrying wooden sculptures of individual scenes of the events of the Passion. The city is crowded with residents and visitors who come to see the spectacle and atmosphere. The Seville Fair takes place two week after Easter in a vast area next to the Guadalquivir River where rows of "casetas" (private tents that belong to prominent families, groups of friends, clubs or associations) are temporarily built. It begins on Monday at midnight and runs six days, ending the following sunday. This is an unmissible event for the inhabitants of Seville. Each days, the party starts at midday with parades of carriages and riders. The Sevillan women are dressed up in their "traje de flamenca" (flamenco style dress) and men and women spend all day and night long in their "casetas" dancing "Sevillanas", drinking Jerez sherry or manzanilla wine and eating tapas.
