...Inside the most visited museum in Scandinavia stands the majestic warship Vasa the only remaining intact vessel in the world from the 17th century. Visitors to the museum will learn about the ship's fascinating and doomed history: Originally commissioned by the Swedish King Gustavaus Adolphus in 1625 as part of the naval fleet to defend the country against Poland, the "mighty" Vasa never made it on its maiden voyage in 1628. The ship actually sank just minutes after setting sail in front of thousands of spectators and foreign dignitaries.
In 1961, the Vasa was salvaged to its former glory, including approximately 700 sculptures and ornaments. Exhibitions at the museum include Face to Face, which documents the lives of people who were onboard when it sank. Cinemas, a gift shop and a restaurant are also part of the complex.
The stunning space is available for private functions. The Vasa Museum is open June to August from 8 AM to 6 PM, and September to May from 10 AM to 5 PM with extended hours Wednesday until 8 PM. Admission is SEK 95 for adults and free for children under 18.
