A vibrant city, offering a wealth of museums, gardens, musical performances and a dynamic nightlife, Tijuana is also one of Mexico's fastest growing cities, as well as the Baja California peninsula's largest city. As part of the world's most frequented border crossing, meeting venues in Tijuana play host to several international events, including culinary fairs and dance festivals.
Given its privileged geographic setting, Tijuana is a highly accessible destination, both by land and by air. The General Abelardo L. Rodriguez International Airport (TIJ) primarily services Mexican destinations. However, Tijuana is located only 22 miles south of the San Diego International Airport (SAN), which offers flights to and from dozens of U.S. destinations. Bus companies, such as Estrella Blanca, TAP autobuses and Transportes ABC, all service a variety of national destinations, and Intercalifornias Transportes has bus service to and from several California destinations.
Hotel venues in Tijuana comprise 11 meeting hotels, with a guest room inventory of 2,983 rooms. One of the city's special event venues, the Jai Alai, is a Mudejar-style building that was constructed in 1925; it has served as a Basque Pelota court and as a horse racing track. Now it is a space for concerts and events. The city's biggest hotel, the Grand Hotel Tijuana offers its guests 422 luxury rooms and suites, as well as nearly 30,000 square feet of events and exhibition space. The hotel is a 10-minute ride from the airport and offers several restaurants and bars, a pool, tennis courts and a golf course. Its 17 meeting and event spaces can accommodate up to 1,500 people simultaneously.
One of Tijuana's most visibly striking attractions is the city's cultural center, which promotes art and culture through the use of various exhibition spaces, audio-visual attractions, including an IMAX theater, and interesting architecture. Tijuana is well known for its great deals on luxury services, and several top of the line spas and a seaside golf course have become popular attractions. The city has several museums, among which is the Museo de la Californias, with exhibits covering development of regional history from pre-Hispanic times to modern day.
