Times Square, that "crossroads of the world" is specifically a network of Broadway theaters, restaurants, stores, neon signs and famous Times Square venues flowing from the intersection of Broadway and Seventh Avenue and stretching from West 42nd to West 47th streets. The extended Times Square area, also called the Theatre District, consists of the blocks between Sixth and Eighth Avenues from east to west, and West 40th and West 53rd Streets from south to north, making up the western part of the commercial area of Midtown Manhattan.
Getting to and from the Times Square area takes approximately 45 minutes via taxi or car from the New York metropolitan area's three major airports-LaGuardia Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport. Once in Times Square, visitors can hail a cab, jump on the subway or catch a bus.
Chief among large venues in the Times Square area are the 675,000-square-foot Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and the 133,000-square-foot Piers 92/94 both located on the West Side along the Hudson River.
But the smaller meeting venues in Times Square are close to 40 Broadway theaters - and many of those are also available for special events
Most venues in Times Square are made for tourism groups and thus are easily converted for social events or product launches. Madame Tussauds New York can accommodate an intimate gathering for 10 or a buyout for up to 1,200. Ripley's Believe it or Not -Times Square, which houses an eccentric collection of unusual artifacts, will close for private events for as many as 1,210 or offer a private room for smaller groups. Bowlmor Lanes Times Square, recently opened inside the old New York Times building, can be divided into seven themed New York City lounges, a 220-seat restaurant from chef David Burke and a 225-person event space. Hard Rock Times Square is available for groups of up to 1,200 and includes a live concert venue and signature rock n' roll memorabilia. Even the Toys R' Us in Times Square offers a glass conference room that overlooks the store and holds up to 75 for receptions.
The Times Square boasts many world-class hotels that include the New York Marriott Marquis with 101,450 square feet of meeting space, The Westin New York at Times Square with 34,000 square feet of meeting space, Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan with 20,803 square feet of meeting space and the InterContinental New York Times Square with more than 10,000 square feet of meeting space.
Varied cuisine reigns supreme in Times Square. From The View on the 47th floor of the Marriott Marquis to Tony's Di Napoli that serves huge portions of Italian food, Times Square boasts restaurants with everything in between.
Times Square has achieved the status of an iconic world landmark and has become a symbol of New York City and with such a variety of attractions and meeting venues it's easy to see why.
