...As one of the most popular Valley Forge attractions, the beautiful, Valley Forge National Historical Park is the site of the Continental Army's pivotal 1777-1778 winter encampment. The park was established in 1893, making it Pennsylvania's first state park. In 1976, it became a national park. The Park commemorates the Revolutionary War with replica soldier huts, monuments, visitor center and theater. Its 28 miles of trails are perfect for hiking and biking. A renovated 1913 train station, near Washington's Headquarters, features an interactive exhibit on George Washington and inner circle. Visitors can take part in ranger-led walking tours, living history events and trolley tours. The Valley Forge National Historical Park is open daily from 7 AM to dusk while the visitors center is open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM Admission to the park is free. Groups are welcome.

...Located just 30 miles outside of Valley Forge, the internationally renowned Longwood Gardens is an oasis of 1,050 acres of gardens, woodlands and meadows. First purchased in 1906 by horticulturalist Pierre S. du Pont, the Italian- and French-themed gardens are home to 11,000 types of plants and more fountains than any other garden in the United States. Guests can explore 325 acres of public space including 20 outdoor gardens such as the Rose Garden, Topiary Garden, Wisteria Garden and Forest Walk. The five-acre Fountain Garden features carved Italian limestone, and the Italian Water Garden is stunning with 18 blue-tiled pools. Built in 1919, the Main Conservatory at Longwood Gardens covers four acres and houses nearly 20 indoor gardens and 5,500 types of plants. Longwood Gardens offers on-site rental facilities as well as catering by the Terrace Restaurant. Longwood Gardens is open daily, April and May, from 9 AM to 6 PM June to August, it is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Sunday, from 9 AM to 6 PM and Friday and Saturday from 9 AM to 10 PM It is open daily, September and November, from 9 AM to 5 PM and daily, December to March, from 9 AM to 9 PM Admission is $6 for children aged 5-18 and $16 for adults. Admission for children under 5 is free. Group rates are available for 15 or more.
