West Hollywood is the California many aspire to: a fabled land of large drives, sporty cars, sunny days and Star Maps homes. As with Santa Monica and Beverly Hills, West Hollywood is a separate city from Los Angeles. Driving up and down West Hollywood's hilly roads is second only to jogging up and down them (for latte at The Coffee Bean). The main drag is Sunset Blvd., known as the Strip, where many prominent West Hollywood venues are found.
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the main airport of what is the United States' second most crowded metropolitan area. It is in the Los Angeles suburb of Westchester, approximately 20 miles by freeway from the center of West Hollywood.
The Los Angeles Convention Center is close, no more than six miles as the crow flies, but sometimes they are the only things in Los Angeles that do, so give groups plenty of time. The center has 720,000 square feet of exhibit space and 147,000 square feet of meeting space.
Hotel venues in West Hollywood include the 140-room Standard, the 153-room Sunset Marquis, 80-room Petit Ermitage, 113-room Chamberlain, 237-room Mondrian and 200-room London West Hollywood (with more than 15,000 square feet of space). One of the newest properties is the 238-room Andaz West Hollywood (formerly Hyatt West Hollywood).
The R.M. Schindler House, home of the famous architect, is among West Hollywood meeting venues; its 3,500-square-foot main room can host receptions of up to 180 persons. The Pacific Design Center, which has a branch of The Museum of Contemporary Art and two Wolfgang Puck restaurants, also has the 380-seat Silver Screen Theater, a 200-seat conference center, an amphitheater for 2,000 persons and a plaza for 2,500. The Lot has space for up to 2,000 persons; it has also just opened a 3,000-square-foot rooftop, and the views on a balmy Southern Californian nights are stupendous. The famed Viper Room can be booked for events of up to 175 persons; Lucques, a former home of silent comedian Harold Lloyd, has space for banquets of up to 60, receptions for up to 130. Finally, the House of Blues boasts eight separate spaces that can cater to groups from 10 to 1,500.
Dining venues in West Hollywood include The Abbey, which caters to up to 1,200 persons in 16,000 square feet of space. The Saddle Ranch Chop House straddles the delicate divide between Western dude-ranch home and Vail ski lodge and has room for events of up to 600 persons. Katana accommodates groups of up to 500. Another huge venue is The Hudson, which can look after 1,800 persons.
