Tamara Jack, ACC NCR President Elect

As counsel for our organizations, we play a key role in establishing and implementing diversity programs for our clients, as well as for our departments.  ACC National Capital Region, as part of its mission to serve the in-house counsel community, sponsors a diversity initiative aimed at giving its members a way to help achieve their diversity goals.

The Corporate Scholars summer internship “diversity pipeline” program provides students from the law schools in our service area an opportunity to experience corporate practice. Our objective is to identify talented students who are from backgrounds where they otherwise would not be aware of, or would lack access, to these opportunities. In the past 17 years, this competitive program has placed approximately 160 students in summer experiential learning opportunities in the legal departments of local companies and non-profits. We have many success stories to share.  Click here to read testimonials previous years' hosts.

For the summer of 2020, ACC National Capital Region is inviting applications from students at the following law schools:  American University, Catholic University, George Mason University, George Washington University, Georgetown University, Howard University, the University of the District of Columbia, the University of Maryland, the University of Baltimore, the University of Virginia, the University of Richmond, and William & Mary. We plan to fund approximately ten (10) summer internships in the legal departments of our members’ companies. Last year, we provided $10,000 in funding for each participating student.  We plan to offer an equally attractive award in 2021. The internships should provide the students with substantive experience and meaningful exposure to in-house practice.  The program is open to both full-time and part-time students entering their 2L and 3L years in the fall of 2021.

We invite you to apply to participate in the Corporate Scholars Program. Click here to read our FAQs about how the Program works that should answer the questions you may have: ACC NCR_HOST_FAQS_2020.  If you are selected to participate in the Program, we will work with your company to help you structure a good internship experience.  We are hoping to have internship opportunities from throughout our service area (Washington, D.C., Virginia, and suburban Maryland).

We greatly appreciate your interest in being a leader in the effort to promote diversity.
