The Rugby World Cup 2015  is coming up!
In nine days, the UK will host one of the most emblematic world championships: the 2015 Rugby World Cup. This edition will attract more international visitors than any previous Rugby World Cup, with up to 466,000 visits* expected across the duration of the Tournament. With 20 nations, 13 stadiums spread across the country, the programme promises to be varied and engaging just like the BSCC’s event programme for the second half of the year. Closer to the continent, we will be observing with great interest the teams campaigning for the 18th October Swiss Federal Elections and share important highlights of the debates in our British-Swiss news. So ready: Crouch, bind and set!

The Office Opening and Open Door Day
Since the BSCC central office team moved to the new location on Bleicherweg in May 2015, we have been working tirelessly to make the new office, furnished, welcoming and practical for both the staff and members alike. It brings us not only closer together but brings the office closer to all our members. Launching an Official Open Evening event last week, the event was fully booked in 48 hours!  We are so pleased that our valued members and friends wish to support this new chapter for the BSCC.  For those that unfortunately could not make it, we are delighted to announce we will have an Open Day on Monday 21st September for our members to pop in for a cup of coffee, see the space and of course meet or say hi to the team.  Further details of the BSCC Open Day can be found here. We look forward to welcoming you to the new offices soon.

Office Patron: Jean-Pierre Cuoni
We are delighted to welcome Jean-Pierre Cuoni as our newest patron. Mr Cuoni has been a valued supporter the BSCC since over 25 years in different functions - now as Honourary Councilor and with his office patronage he is supporting our infrastructure of the new BSCC location at Bleicherweg. An office close to the centre of the city and much closer to our members. He brings us a step further in the aim to become a more vibrant, dynamic and diversified business community. Thank you Jean-Pierre Cuoni!

BRITISH-SWISS FACTS

DID YOU KNOW that the Swiss won the European championship in Rugby?
In the context of the upcoming Rugby World Cup 2015 let’s take a look at how the traditional British sport is present here in Switzerland. In 1973 the Swiss national rugby team played their first match against Portugal. They lost. Despite the hard start the sport grew slowly but steadily and at the moment there are around 40 active rugby clubs in Switzerland. Also the number of women’s teams is increasing and this year the Swiss Women's 7s National Team took the 6th place in the European Championship. But the biggest success ever in Swiss rugby happened this year thanks to the Swiss U20 team that won the U20 European championship. Let’s see where this trend leads.
