DASNY’s Senior Project Manager, Stefan Thiersch, explained that, “from the big issues to the small details, every day the design and construction progress was moved forward, obstacles were overcome and difficulties surpassed with a positive attitude and enthusiasm to get the job done. This passed on through from the main management team of the client, CUNY, Pei Cobb (Architect), Freed and Partners, Hunter Roberts (Construction Manager) to the sub consultants and to the contractors who all benefitted from the delivery of a timely and successful project.”

The new building is made up of 102 teaching spaces in classrooms and labs, and a two-story, 12-room conference center. The modern design is achieved with simple, white finishes combined with stainless steel detailing and exposed wood. The exterior finish mirrors the surrounding area of brick to the north and glass curtain wall to the south. The project is part of the World Trade Center Redevelopment and proudly stands at the northern edge of that site overlooking the Museum and Memorial. Additional features on each floor include:
- Basement - classrooms with administration and mechanical spaces;
- First floor - lobbies, café, art gallery and bicycle storage;
- Second floor - classrooms;
- Third floor - classrooms and music ensemble rooms;
- Fourth - 12th floors - classrooms with virtual library on floors 7-9;
- 13th & 14th floors - conference center with 12 rooms including a terrace on 13;
- 15th floor - mechanical penthouse.
