» Interactive Project Planning (IPP)

Interactive Project Planning (IPP) was identified through Fiatech’s Voice of the Owner discussions as a means to ensure project scope, responsibilities, interdependencies, costs and schedule are more fully defined and realistic when launched. As a result, Fiatech is in the process of generating a Guide to Interactive Project Planning, which will be discussed in a workshop at the upcoming Fiatech Leadership Forum. Read more

» Supplier Information Exchange with Design to Support Construction (SIE)

The SIE project focused on capturing minimum third-party supplier data deliverables needed to effectively support construction including planning, work-packaging, storage, and maintenance processes. The approach taken was to first gain better understanding of the nature of third-party suppliers, with respect to what governs information generation, and characteristics along with how data is typically transitioned into supporting construction. Read more

» Crossrail Data Interoperability Proof of Concept to Support Information

Crossrail is a 118-kilometre (73-mile) railway line under construction in the United Kingdom. Crossrail will need to provide asset information and documentation to two Infrastructure Managers to support commissioning and handover of assets. This project was a proof of concept that tested and successfully demonstrated a potential technical solution based on the ISO15926 standard. Read more

»  Streamlining Practice Advances

ICC2 
The International Code Council unanimously approved for action during their 2015 Annual Business Meeting and Code Change Hearings a proposal inserting the ICC Guidelines for Replicable Buildings into the appendix of the 2016 International Building Code.   When approved in September this action can significantly reduce the time and cost of plans approval for structures that are repetitively built in this country – including retail stores, restaurants, hotels, and residential structures – a significant savings to both building owners and to communities. Read more 


» Autocodes, Phase II Completed

In Phase II the AutoCodes Project Team built on the lessons from Phase 1 to:  set the framework for future Standards Development Organization (SDO) validation of the digital review process, produce model protocol guidelines (Minimum Modeling Matrix or M3) to serve as a ‘recipe’ for development of reviewable BIM files, set workflow guidelines for the digital review process and expand digital transition education and training for state and local governments.  Read more

Artificial Intelligence Event in Overland Park, Kansas on Oct. 29
Fiatech will be sending out invitations shortly to owners, EPC firms and other leaders in the capital facilities and construction industry to attend a special one day session to look at and assess the applicability of Artificial Intelligence to building design, construction, operations and maintenance.   Entitled, “Bring Us Your Problems,” the session is being hosted by Black and Veatch and will include a presentation by IBM on applications of Watson. 2nd Annual Efficiency through Digital Projects is in London on Nov. 10-11
