Inspirational Leader and Technology Champ, Tom Hannigan Honored with Top Industry Award

The distinguished recipient of Fiatech’s prestigious James B. Porter Jr. Award for Technology Innovation has been recognized

AUSTIN, Texas (May 4, 2015) – Fiatech’s Celebration of Technology & Innovation (CETI) Awards Gala was held on April 14, the second day of the 15th Annual Technology Conference & Showcase, at the Waldorf Astoria’s Boca Raton Resort and Club in Florida. The CETI’s celebrate emerging technologies, innovation in research & development, and also lead up to the highly anticipated James B. Porter, Jr. Award for Technology Leadership.

With great enthusiasm, Frank Matthewson, chair of the Fiatech Board of Advisors, made the announcement that this year’s unanimous visionary selected for embodying the spirit of James B. Porter, was Tom Hannigan. As the first to comment, Matthewson said, “Tom was one of the very early promoters and adopters of mobility solutions, and recognized them as breakthrough technologies that would significantly change how many of our businesses operate.”

Colleagues from Tom’s service as President of Zachry Nuclear Group joined the celebration and numerous professionals shared kudos on his innovative contributions. Retired Dow Chemical professional, Jerry Gipson shared, “He has for many years been a tireless and forceful champion for the vision of Fiatech as a technology leader and trusted advisor to the capital projects industry.  This identity and purpose is at the heart of our continuing strategic transformation. We are exceedingly fortunate that Tom will continue to help lead us forward.”

Fiatech established this award in 2007 as a tribute to Jim Porter, who was instrumental in establishing Fiatech and whose vision, leadership, technical acumen, commitment to people, and tireless efforts have advanced the capital projects industry.

When Tom took the stage to receive this recognition, he was joined by Mike Perkins of Zachry Group who filled the room with inspiration by sharing what it takes to be a true leader of innovation. When he stepped aside to allow Tom to comment on this unexpected honor, Tom highlighted the “Butterfly Effect”, challenged everyone to be the one whose wings lead to change, and shared George Bernard Shaw’s quote, “The reasonable person adapts themselves to the conditions that surround them. The unreasonable person adapts the surrounding conditions to themselves. All progress depends on the unreasonable person.”
