The Bilateral Chamber’s 2016 OTC Week of programming recently concluded with yet another series of impactful programs and events. The week began on Monday evening, May 2nd when nearly 1000 U.S. and Middle East decision makers came together for an evening of networking and substantive business exchange at our 19th Annual Arab Welcome Reception.

On Tuesday morning, we were honored to deliver one of our most well received Ambassador Insight Series events when the Honorable Adam Ereli, former U.S. Ambassador to Bahrain and Bilateral Chamber Advisory Board Member, moderated an esteemed panel that included the current U.S. Ambassadors to Saudi ArabiaKuwait, and the United Arab Emirates.

The week of business programs concluded on a high note with our 2nd Annual Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum Briefing featuring a keynote address by His Excellency Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum & Mineral Resources. His Excellency El Molla provided a very candid and insightful perspective on current and upcoming opportunities for U.S. businesses to experience success in Egypt.

Our flagship Arab Welcome Reception, celebrating its 19th year, convened global energy industry professionals who traveled to Houston for the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) seeking fertile ground for cultivating viable business relationships and deals.

In addition to the participants representing official delegations from countries including, but not limited to UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Iraq, Egypt, Algeria, Angola, Nigeria, Norway, India, Mexico, and Brazil, our Welcome Reception brought together an esteemed group of business leadership. We were pleased to host a record number of  IOC and NOC CEOs, Oil Ministry officials and senior executives from the oil-and-gas sector and all the auxiliary industries that support it including; EPC and oilfield services, OEMs, aviation & logistics, IT, professional services, and healthcare.

One of the evening's highlights occurred when the Bilateral's Chairman of the Board, David L. Phillips, presented Edward A. (Sandy) Lowe, President, Oxy Oil & Gas – International and Executive Vice President, Occidental Petroleum Corporation, with our 2016 Visionary Leadership Award. We were honored to present the Award in recognition of Sandy Lowe's and Occidental’s decades-long commitment as a reliable partner and stakeholder in the Middle East and Arab World.

Ambassador Insight Series: GCC
Panel Discussion with U.S. Ambassadors to UAE, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait

On May 3rd, we hosted a successful and highly anticipated Ambassador Panel with an all-star diplomatic corps lineup featuring the U.S. Ambassadors to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. The former U.S. Ambassador to Bahrain, The Honorable Adam Ereli, a seasoned diplomat in his own right, moderated the panel.

The Honorable U.S. Ambassadors Barbara Leaf (UAE), Joseph Westphal (Saudi Arabia) and Douglas Silliman (Kuwait) represent three of the most influential countries in the Middle East. They addressed topics of the day ranging from evolving local leadership to the shifting geopolitical, economic and security priorities between the United States and these principal GCC allies.

Amidst a dynamic stream of newsworthy events originating in the region, the Ambassadors offered perspectives on several specific developments including, the announcement of Saudi Aramco’s public offering next year and the 'Vision 2030' diversification plans released by the Deputy Crown Prince of the Kingdom. The discussion regarding the UAE focused on the Emirates resilience in non-oil sectors buoyed by healthcare, tech, and renewables, among others. For Kuwait, the public sector reforms and recently announced multi-billion dollar investment opportunities and commercial tenders held the spotlight.

At the 2nd Annual Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum Briefing, His Excellency Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum & Mineral Resources, provided insight into current opportunities in Egypt’s oil and gas sector. With a comprehensive presentation, His Excellency the Minister highlighted Egypt's vision to be the region’s energy hub via leveraging its tremendous exploration potential, largely undeveloped reserves, and new strategies implemented to overcome current challenges, boost upstream activities, and secure a sustainable energy supply.

In addition to His Excellency’s keynote address, John Christmann, CEO and President, Apache Corporation, and Maurice Nessim, President - WesternGeco, Schlumberger, offered a private-sector perspective and industry overview.
