Friends! Welcome to our first quarterly partner e-newsletter. I am so excited to offer you a small snapshot of a quarter in the life of FinanciallyHers. I hope that you will take the time to view our videos and pictures. On a regular basis, I find myself inspired by the women who enroll in this program looking for a way grow and learn and to better themselves and their families. It is my hope that this newsletter will be a way for me to share the excitement, growing confidence and personal motivation that I see every day. Please enjoy! |
| Entrepreneurship Workshop A Big Success We had a phenomenal turn out to our first entrepreneurship workshop,"Are you ready to be an entrepreneur?", held on Saturday, March 19th. Nearly 70 women turned out to listen to Ms. Kimberle Levin share her real life experiences and actionable steps for how to start a business. Ms. Levin taught participants how to get focused, why a business plan is crucial, how to schmooze like a pro, and her business "Kimmandments". Participants were really energized by the event and we would love to be able to offer more special workshops like this in the future. Click here to view a short video. The partnership involves financial literacy and capability initiatives for women and families that have been affected by domestic violence and cross-agency training opportunities for staff members of each agency to learn about the issues addressed by the other organization.
This proved to be a very productive partnership. Over the course of the 7 workshops we were able to offer we had total participation of 115, served approximately 25 individuals, and logged 14 hours of instruction. We are pursuing ways to maintain this partnership so we can continue to serve these clients as well as the community at large on a regular basis throughout the year. CCCS Selected as Philly Fellows Finalist Philly Fellows offers year-long fellowships that connect top college graduates to dynamic non-profit opportunities while developing their leadership and professional skills and engaging them in the city's vibrant communities.FinanciallyHers has been chosen as an outstanding opportunity for a motivated college graduate to make a significant difference in the community. It is among the positions that will be presented to prospective fellows as they consider applying. We have conducted the first interviews and are awaiting the announcements of final matches in April. If CCCS is matched with a Fellow they will work full-time to add new programs, resources, and capacity to FinanciallyHers. We are very excited about the prospect of hosting a Philly Fellow in 2011-2012! Financial Education for Parents
Our new workshop "How to Raise Financially Savvy Kids" was launched to great success. We were asked to present this new class at the 9th Annual Juanita KiddStout Youth Economic Empowerment Conference on April 16th. Hosted at St. Joseph's University, the event was open to youth grades 5 through 12 and their parents and guardians. The event was really fantastic. Click here to see more pictures of this event.
