Open Data, the Energy Economy and Water Scarcity Among Key Issues Discussed at the California Summit
Hundreds of California’s leading business executives and policymakers gathered last week for the Milken Institute California Summit. Each year since 1999 the Institute has convened CEOs, investors, labor leaders, government officials, elected leaders and other experts to hear presentations and discuss the greatest challenges and opportunities facing the state. Among the topics discussed: the ease of doing business in California; solutions to the state’s transportation problems; rethinking the state's century-old approach to water sourcing, delivery and use; and the competition between Silicon Beach and Silicon Valley for the digital world’s best and brightest.

Technology Continues to Drive America's Best-Performing Cities
Our annual "Best-Performing Cities" index reveals that technology continues to power America's most dynamic cities. Data for all metros is available on the interactive "Best-Performing Cities" website. The Top 3 metros all have thriving tech centers: San Jose is No. 1, rising three spots from last year. Close on its heels at No. 2 is San Francisco, which was last year's top finisher. Returning to the No. 3 spot is Provo, Utah.
