Houston Methodist Global Health Care Services Announces
World’s First Simultaneous Skull, Scalp, Kidney & Pancreas Transplants

In May, the world’s first skull and scalp transplant, along with simultaneous kidney and pancreas transplants, was performed at Houston Methodist Hospital. Jim Boysen, a 55-year-old software engineer from Texas, is the first patient to receive the simultaneous craniofacial tissue transplant together with solid organ transplants. Read More

Peter Jay Hotez, M.D., Ph.D., is a member of The Academy of Medicine, Engineering & Science of Texas (TAMEST). He is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine and is the Dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children’s Hospital Endowed Chair of Tropical Pediatrics, President of the Sabin Vaccine Institute, University Professor of Biology at Baylor University, and Baker Institute Fellow in Disease and Poverty at Rice University.

Medical experts warn that it will affect nearly 600 million people by 2035 at a projected cost of $635 billion globally.

Lancet, the prestigious medical journal, recently published a study revealing that diabetes is now a grave and growing health issue across the Middle East. In 2013, five countries in the region -- Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and United Arab Emirates -- were among the top 15 globally with the highest prevalence of diabetes… Read More

UPS Hosted A Comprehensive One Day Seminar On
Global Trends In Healthcare

Held in Washington DC on July 29, the UPS Global Trends in Healthcare Seminar featured expertise from UPS' global compliance, ethics, global customs and regulatory management team. Executive participants from the healthcare industry were briefed on global legislation impacting healthcare, trade facilitation and accelerated border clearance solutions. They learned how to establish a compliance plan and manage foreign anti-corruption risk. Participants were later treated to a private tour of the Capitol and a private reception at the UPS' Historic Townhouse on New Jersey Avenue.
