Beautiful enters its second sensational year!

BEAUTIFUL: The Carole King Musical
celebrates its first birthday in London’s West End this month. The Tony, Olivier and Grammy award winner has been delighting audiences at London’s Aldwyth Theatre and is currently booking until October 2016.

Carole King, the chart-topping music legend, was an ordinary girl with an extraordinary talent. She fought her way into the record industry as a teenager and sold her first hit, Will You Love Me Tomorrow, when she was just seventeen. By the time she was twenty she was writing number ones for the biggest acts in rock ‘n’ roll, including the Drifters, the Shirelles, Aretha Franklin and the Monkees. But her greatest challenge was to find her own voice and finally step into the spotlight.

BEAUTIFUL is the untold story of her journey from school girl to superstar; from her relationship with husband and song-writing partner Gerry Goffin, their close friendship and playful rivalry with fellow song-writing duo Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, to her remarkable rise to stardom. 

Along the way, she became one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history, and wrote the soundtrack to a generation, with countless classics such as You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman, Take Good Care of my Baby, You’ve Got a Friend, So Far Away, It Might As Well Rain Until September, Up on the Roof, and Locomotion.

Travel Technology Europe introduces Hospitality Tech Showcase

Online, offline – who cares? 

As the European Partner for Travel Technology Europe, ETOA will be at the show. We hope to see you at our stand, T70, or at our seminar on Thursday 25th February, 11.30am-12.30pm. We will be in the Disrupt channel. Our themes this year is “Online, offline – who cares?”

The modern traveller expects a seamless service, whatever platform they use. What is on the horizon that will allow the online and offline worlds to be virtually indistinguishable? The ETOA panel will discuss new disruptions that will change our ability to move between the two, both as businesses and travellers.

During the year ETOA attends a number of trade shows across Europe and our participation regularly includes seminars on a variety of topics. Early 2016 is no different with slots on direct bookings, experiential travel and what makes a destination traveller friendly featuring at ITB in Berlin, BTTS in Birmingham and MITT in Moscow. This last topic brings up the question of the relationship between tourism and cities, one that we have covered on several occasions in recent years. ETOA is now an active partner in a project looking at visitor pressure run by CELTH (Centre for Excellence in Leisure, Tourism and Hospitality) in conjunction with the cities of Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Copenhagen, Lisbon and Munich. It is in all of our interests to make sure visitor economies continue to thrive, so watch this space for updates.

Europe’s emerging visitor economies
While a large proportion of visitor growth to Europe has been in the direction of the major country destinations, the last decade has seen the rapid growth of several smaller emergent tourism economies around the Balkans, Baltic States and central Europe. It reflects both the commitment being made by national governments to tourism as a generator of economic wealth and jobs, as well as the investment in developing tourism infrastructure.
