London & Partners, in partnership with Tourism South East and the GREAT Britain campaign, have launched "London the way to new experiences – London is just the beginning".

The campaign, which launched in January this year, is targeted at audiences in Sweden and Norway. The aim is to inspire consumers in these markets to plan a trip to London and the South East of England in the run up to spring and summer 2016 - building on London’s reputation to drive awareness of the South East region, its proximity and range of products.

ETOA @ITB

March is a busy month for ETOA in terms of seminars at trade shows, starting with ITB in Berlin. Now in its third year our travel technology seminar at ITB is on Wednesday 9th March in the eTravel Lab (hall 6.1) from 11.30-12noon. This year our expert panel will be looking at ‘The Consumer Revolution In Self-Service Travel’ and the trend for direct bookings. This event is open to all attendees and last year’s event was standing room only by the start, so be sure to be there early – details can be found here.

We will also be taking part in a workshop on visitor pressure in cities as part of our contribution to CELTH’s (the Centre of Expertise in Leisure, Tourism and Hospitality) project looking into the impact of tourism in six major European destinations. Titled ‘Congested City Destinations: Research Findings And Solutions’ this event takes place on Thursday 10th March from 12.30-1.15pm in Room Regensburg in Hall 4.1 - details here.

ETOA will also be contributing to a session titled ‘Living The Future On The Danube: Neighboring Destinations – Partners or Competitors?’ on Friday 11th March from 3.30-4.15pm in the Auditorium New York in Hall 7.1a. The Lower Danube joined forces at last year’s City Fair and ETOA’s River Cruising seminars over the last two years in Switzerland have looked at the structural challenges for major rivers – details here.

ETOA Research
Trends In Europe’s Origin Markets
This section provides a long-term perspective of European tourism with regards to the performance of origin markets since 2003. Any assessment oftourism since thattime has to acknowledge the major world events that shaped demand. The year 2003 marked a period of recovery in several origin markets in the wake ofthe terrorist attacks of 9/11. Five years later, the global economic crisis had a profound effect on travel demand in the developed economies of West. Meanwhile, in the Asia Pacific region, the major emerging markets were creating rapidly growing new sources of travel demand.

Most recently, the volatile economic situation and politicaltensions in Russia and Ukraine are having an impact particularly in Europe. In Asia Pacific, it remains to be seen if the slowing of the Chinese economy and the stock exchange crash will have any effect on travel volumes from China.
