Downtown Dallas, Inc. Hosts Another Successful Annual Meeting & Luncheon
On Friday, February 27th, more than 1,400 business, civic, and community leaders joined us for our Annual Meeting and Luncheon at the Omni Dallas Hotel. Despite the snowy weather, it was another great day Downtown, as we were joined by presenting sponsor Oncor, and Southwest Airlines made a special announcement about new nonstop flights and gifted the entire audience with $100 LUV vouchers! The 2015 Board of Directors was voted in, and Jim Greer, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Oncor, took the helm as the Chair of the Board of Directors. Downtown Dallas, Inc. (DDI) honored Jack Matthews of Matthews Southwest with the Chairman’s Award and John Crawford, President & CEO of DDI, talked about the progress of the Downtown Dallas 360 plan’s implementation over the last four years. The audience also welcomed Daniel Iacofano, Ph.D., FAICP, FASLA, and CEO & founding principal of MIG, Inc. who spoke about ideas around a competitive 21st century including the importance of Millennials, transformative infrastructure, technology, innovation space, and energy.

A big thank you to presenting sponsor Oncor, as well as our pinnacle sponsors, D CEO, Encore Event Technologies, Headington Companies and The Joule Hotel, Omni Dallas Hotel, and Southwest Airlines.  We would also like to thank Randy Robason of Grant Thornton LLP for serving as our Chairman of the Board for 2013-2014, and welcome our new Chairman of the Board, Jim Greer of Oncor!  And congratulations to Jack Matthews of Matthews Southwest, the recipient of this year's Chairman's Award!

Jody and Sheila Grant Receive Linz Award for Klyde Warren Park Efforts
Jody and Sheila Grant’s dedicated efforts are what led to Klyde Warren Park opening in 2012. The $100 million park, built on a 5.2-acre deck over Woodall Rodgers Freeway, has been a popular addition to the Dallas landscape.  In 2004, they agreed to help with planning the park and raised millions.

The Grants will receive the 86th Linz Award at a luncheon on April 8 in recognition of their leadership in the development of the park.  The Linz Award is sponsored by Zale Division of Signet Jewelers Ltd. and The Dallas Morning News. It is given annually to a Dallas County resident in honor of civic service or humanitarian efforts. The award is considered Dallas’ oldest and most prestigious civic honor.

Restaurant/Nightlife News: Spice in the City, Twenty Seven, and Texas Ale Project
You can now get your Indian food fix thanks to the addition of Navin Hariprasad’s new spot, Spice in the City.  They offer to-go meals and catering consisting of bold flavors with Indian, Pakistani, and Malaysian influences, traditional dishes, and sides.  Spice in the City is open for lunch and dinner, Monday through Friday.

Twenty Seven has opened on Elm Street in Deep Ellum.  The restaurant offers dinner on Thursday through Saturday only, and has four different menus to choose from: field (vegetarian), land (wild game), sea (pescatarian), and "signature." The first three will rotate their offerings weekly, while the signature menu will change with the seasons.

Texas Ale Project is the newest brewery to hit town and is located in the Design District.  The brewery is the family project of husband and wife Brent Thompson and Kat Stevens, who began making beer in 2003.  The T.A.P. room is currently open Thursdays and Fridays from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 1:00 – 9:00 p.m.
