Momentum is gathering for the Lebanon International Oil & Gas Summit (LIOG) 3-4 December 2012 at the Phoenicia Hotel, Beirut. The Ministry of Finance has announced it will support LIOG alongside the Ministry of Energy and Water. H.E. Mr. Mohammed A. Safadi, Minister of Finance and Mr. Alain Bifani, General Director at the Ministry join the speaker line up led by the speaker patron H.E. Mr. Gebran Bassil, Minister of Energy. 2012 Strategic Risk Outlook from AEGIS
On 13 September Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Roz Nuri Shaways said the federal government and a delegation from the country's Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) had agreed an end to the dispute over payments to the KRG’s foreign oil contractors. In return the Kurds would continue ‘oil exports from the Region through the Iraqi oil pipeline and to work to increase production to 200,000 barrels per day as a first stage.’ The new deal caused great excitement, pushing up shares in foreign companies operating in the Kurdish Region. This latest deal is a positive step but by no means a permanent solution to the dispute. The interim solutions that are the order of the day are merely temporary remedies, for the best permanent solution is an Oil and Gas Law – and unless the Kurds do outstandingly well at the next national elections, gaining extra political clout, resolution of issues will be more on Baghdad's terms than theirs.
