5th Annual European Tourism Summit in the Alps – Register Now

Tuesday, 6th October 2015, Lucerne
Registrations are now open for this year’s summit on the 6th October at the Hotel Schweizerhof in Lucerne. As in previous years ETOA buyer members can benefit from free accommodation and Swiss Travel passes courtesy of Lucerne and Switzerland Tourism and Swiss Travel System and the event is free for all ETOA members and guests. It comes at a crucial moment for European tourism with a new European Commission and several pieces of legislation under review, so we are delighted to have Istvan Ujhelyi, Vice-Chair of the European Parliament's Transport and Tourism Committee as a keynote speaker. We will be considering where tourism could go over the next five years if the right environment is in place and this coming together of policy makers and industry figures is one of the main occasions in the year when priorities are decided.

ETOA Research
ETOA June 15 Newsletter research

Around the globe, city tourism has enjoyed great success in recent years. About one-fifth of all holiday trips are city vacations and in the last five years have been the fastest growing category of leisure tourism. Volumes have increased by 58%, far outstripping the 32% rise in touring holidays, and the 18% for sun and beach vacations. Growth has been driven by a number of factors, key amongst them the large increase in global tourism demand, better connectivity between cities and of course the evolving attraction and amenities mix in urban destinations. Cities are also seeing the positive impact of sustained investment in their visitor economies, and integrating tourism as a pivotal element in economic growth strategies.
