For a few days in April "Galt's Gulch" in Colorado will become a reality. Principled friends of liberty from more than 30 countries will assemble in Colorado Springs to enjoy an "Atlas Experience" — great ideas and great speakers, including Gabriel Calzada, the president-elect of Universidad Francisco Marroquín, Guatemala, as the keynote speaker for the Fisher Award dinner. The dinner also serves as the awards ceremony for the Sir Antony Fisher Memorial Awards. This meeting precedes the Heritage Resourse Bank. Reasons for Hope in Afghanistan Atlas recently hosted Professor Mohammad Ramizpoor from the Afghanisatan Economic and Legal Studies Institute. In this short interview, Dr. Ramizpoor explains how he is using books and the compelling programming of Radio Kabul to spread the ideas of liberty in Afghanistan. AfricanLiberty Team Headlines International Students for Liberty Conference in Washington, DC Representatives from AfricanLiberty.org traveled to Washington, D.C. in February to speak at the 5th annual International Students for Liberty Conference (ISFLC), educating young people about the foundations of liberty in Africa. Atlas congratulates Olumayowa Okediran for his election to the ISFL board. The team also met with think tank leaders around town and received extensive media training at Atlas headquarters covering social media, google analytics and video production. They have developed new and ambitious plans to take their multimedia message of liberty to university students throughout Africa.

Legislative Committee Adopts Local Think Tank's Tax Relief Recommendations Florida's House Economic Affairs committee unanimously approved a new measure designed to relieve the tax burden on small businesses in the state. Florida's Foundation for Government Accountability, a young think tank established in 2011, provided research and testimony to show how similar measures have helped other states improve economic prosperity. Brazil in the Future In celebration of the Liberty Forum's 25th anniversary and towards promoting the debate about the future of Brazil, the Instituto de Estudos Empresariais (IEE), in Porto Alegre (Brazil) is organizing this forum around the theme: "2037: which Brazil will be yours?" In preparation for the April event, the IEE is screening movies and documentaries chosen for their focus on current issues such as entrepreneurship, politics, and education. Developing Alternatives to the Tax Code in the Dominican Republic Atlas President Alex Chafuen addressed a conference hosted by one of Atlas's partners in the Dominican Republic, the Regional Center for Sustainable Economic Strategies (CREES). This conference focused on alternative tax regimes and international experiences with uniform taxation. Other speakers included Dan Mitchell and Juan Carlos Hidalgo from the Cato Institute. Attendees included economists, policymakers and even politicians from the current Dominican government. The event is part of CREES's larger objective to advance an integral tax reform in Dominican Republic. For more information on the event, click here. Manuel Ayau Online Educational Center Latin American Forum: Opportunities and Challenges Atlas is proud to co-sponsor the forum Latin America: Opportunities and Challenges. This program is hosted by the International Foundation for Liberty, led by Atlas Templeton Leadership Fellow and 2010 Nobel Laureate Mario Vargas Llosa, and Fundacion Libertad from Argentina, led by Gerardo Bongiovanni. The program will be hosted at the University of Lima, Peru, on March 20. Some of the distinguished speakers include former Presidents Alvaro Uribe (Colombia), Vicente Fox (Mexico) and Luis Alberto LaCalle (Uruguay) as well as public intellectuals Esperanza Aguirre from Spain and Jose Piñera from Chile. Advance Arkansas Institute Gives Legislators 5 Strategies to Limit Government Growth As the state's legislators convene for Arkansas's annual legislative session, Advance Arkansas Institute President Dan Greenberg provided five thoughtful strategies for lawmakers concerned about the growth of government. While these recommendations should serve Arkansas especially well, the principles outlined can be considered by liberty lovers everywhere. Not for the Elites, Pakistan for Everyone!
The Alternative Solutions Institute published Dr. Khalil Ahmad's latest book "Pakistan Mein Riyasti Ashrafiya Ka Urooj" (The Rise of State Aristocracy in Pakistan). The book coins the term "State Ashrafiya" or "State Aristocracy," and traces its rise throughout the history of Pakistan. The author then offers solutions, including a discussion on the rule of law in Pakistan.
