November 2015

Late October and early November saw ETOA’s busiest period of the year, more so this year as we held a joint conference on European tourism with the ETC. This year’s GEM saw over 13,000 scheduled appointments. The following week we were pleased to welcome many of you to our stand at the heart of the Global Village in WTM where a variety of members exhibited.

The latest event was a seminar on Best Available Rate and there is still more to come before Christmas with our session at this year’s Buy Tourism Online in Florence and a second collaboration with VisitEngland and its Northern Futures: Best of the North workshop and fam trip.

ETOA Research
A key factor shaping European inbound trends over this period was the global economic crisis. While slowing growth in some markets, it pushed others into reverse. Although most affected markets are now on the path to recovery, the rate of progress has been mixed. More recently the economic and political crises in Russia and Ukraine have affected not only inbound demand to these countries, but also their outbound visitor flows, which is adversely impacting arrival numbers into several countries across Europe.
