Great news! VIEA has initiated, sustained, and expanded important projects that would never have been possible without Island Coastal Economic Trust funding: 🗺️ Developed the first regionally comprehensive clickable map in BC for all First Nations and primary Indigenous organizations in the Island region. This is still the most popular feature at www.viea.ca. 💼 Produced the first 'State of the Island' Economic Report in 2015 (now an interactive Economic Dashboard https://lnkd.in/gPfRCTD5), a unique resource for regional planning. 🌱 Launched Island Good in 2018 to boost local product sales 🌊 Wrote the business case for Seaweed Aquaculture in 2018, fueling a thriving, carbon-negative industry in our communities. 📌Now, VIEA has partnered with the Nanaimo Port Authority on a study to enhance our regional supply chain. This builds on our recent work with ICET and MoTI, highlighting the importance of transportation studies in shaping our region's economic future. Thanks to all our partners for their crucial support! #EconomicDevelopment #RegionalImpact #VancouverIsland #VIEA

Congratulations on the official launch of Iskum Investments! This is a significant step forward in economic reconciliation for First Nations communities across Vancouver Island and the BC Coast.
Today, we are officially launching Iskum Investments - a business-focused Consortium of First Nations from across the Southern B.C. Coast that have come together in a unified modern partnership to make economic reconciliation work for Nations, workers and communities. Iskum’s mandate is to explore economic opportunities that will create new self-generated revenues and support certainty for continued investment in the forest sector in B.C. The Iskum Consortium plans to consider investments that advance B.C.’s efforts in economic and environmental reconciliation, whilst also supporting each Consortium Nations’ decision-making authority, self-determination and economic independence.
