The Fall 2018 Michigan Department of Education School Improvement Conference
Continuously Improving to Support Learning and Learners, is scheduled for November 19 – 20 at the Lansing Center in Lansing, Michigan.

During the first day of the conference, featured topics include:

  • Continuous Improvement Theory of Action
  • Continuous Improvement Process
  • Comprehensive Needs Assessment
  • Systems
  • Consolidated Application

The second day of the conference includes two half-day sessions.

Session 1

An essential component of high-quality differentiated instruction is understanding the needs of each student. Using formative assessment as part of a balanced assessment system is one of the keys to that understanding. This understanding is critical for all students, especially disadvantaged students. Keynote Speaker LeAnn Nickelsen, M.Ed. continues this theme from previous years as she addresses how formative assessment can change a classroom, grade level, or an entire school and district!

Session 2

What are the components of a high-quality system? What is meant by systemic thinking? What is necessary to move from isolated thinking to systemic thinking? Participants will dig deeper into this topic in a facilitated session featuring testimonials from schools and districts who are successfully implementing systemic thinking.
