Jerry Cooper Accepts AdvancED Kentucky Director Position
Jerry Cooper, who has served as AdvancED Kentucky Associate Director since 2012, has been appointed the Director for AdvancED Kentucky.  Jerry, who has over 30 years of experience as a teacher, counselor and principal, has been an accreditation leader in Kentucky for nearly 25 years. Previously, Jerry served as an AdvancED Field Consultant, an AdvancED Professional Development Facilitator and a leader of numerous AdvancED School System Accreditation External Review Teams throughout the United States.

Welcome Lisa Stone to AdvancED Kentucky as Associate Director
Lisa Stone, who previously served as Director of School improvement, Montgomery County Schools (KY), has accepted the position as Associate Director for AdvancED Kentucky.  Lisa has extensive experience as a teacher, principal and district administrator in Clark, Fayette and Montgomery counties.  In addition, she has served in a state-wide leadership role as a consultant and professional development leader for the Kentucky Association of School Councils.

Tom Jones Joins AdvancED Innovation Division
Tom Jones, who has served as AdvancED Kentucky Director since 2000, has accepted a position in the AdvancED Innovation Division as Director of Education Improvement. The Innovation Division is responsible for research and development of new tools, products, resources and services, including the Diagnostic Review process, to support the accreditation and school improvement processes. Tom will continue to work out of the AdvancED Kentucky Managing Office.

Nominate a Deserving Educator Today
Nominations are being accepted and encouraged for the Excellence in Education Award. Please send nominations to the AdvancED Kentucky Managing Office. The award is presented in each state to one individual who has demonstrated unparalleled leadership in promoting and advancing excellence in education. Nominees may be teachers, administrators, board of education members or community representatives.  Criteria include a nominee’s success in the following areas:
  • Generates a common vision and mission for higher expectations among students, faculty and the education community.
  • Demonstrates a record of significant and distinguished contribution to the education profession.
  • Provides a lasting positive impact on student learning.
  • Serves as a role model and mentor for students and/or future generations of educators.
  • Demonstrates significant professional contribution to AdvancED Kentucky and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS/CASI).

The Excellence in Education Award is a wonderful way to recognize a person who has done something special for children or the field of education. A letter of nomination may be sent to Mr. Jerry Cooper, Kentucky State Director. The letter should include the professional background of the nominee along with a description of his/her contributions and accomplishments.
