AdvancED Idaho Council Update

The AdvancED Idaho Council met on October 21-22, 2013 to review all of the updated school profiles and Executive Summaries that were required for ongoing accreditation. The council Document Reviewer provided a summary and/or recommendations to all accredited schools that completed the 2013 annual requirements. The summaries will be mailed to all accredited schools during the month of December. If there are recommendations from the Document Reviewer, the school administrator may update information in ASSIST™ at their convenience. We would like to sincerely thank all of our schools for their attention to this year’s accreditation update requirements.

Partnership with Idaho State Department of Education
AdvancED and NWAC have a long-standing partnership with the Idaho State Department of Education (SDE). Deputy Superintendent, Roger Quarles, is a member of the AdvancED Idaho Council.  We realize the importance of regular communication, so we currently are in the process of meeting with the Statewide System of Support Director, Greg Alexander and the School Choice Coordinator, Michelle Clement Taylor to see if there are ways we can partner in the future to better serve all educators across Idaho.  We will keep you posted.
Idaho’s Transition Status to AdvancED
At the end of the 2013-14 school year, forty percent of Idaho’s accredited schools will have completed their first External Review using the AdvancED Protocol. In addition, many more school administrators have served on External Review Teams and have extensive knowledge of the ASSIST Protocol that is the foundation of the AdvancED continuous improvement model.

This year alone, fifty-eight Idaho schools already have or will host External Reviews. Our Lead Evaluators and host school administrators spend quality time preparing each school and External Review Team for a successful experience. From preparation to the final steps of the External Review, the peer review process is handled professionally with careful attention to detail that provides the host school with meaningful information to guide the continuous improvement process.
Continuous Improvement and External Review
AdvancED is committed to school improvement which is evidenced by the use of a research-based set of standards and a clearly defined structure for evaluating the extent to which a school needs to implement improvement measures. Schools that have completed their External Reviews have a detailed set of documents from the External Review Team that provides both Commendations and Required Actions for improvement. Next steps include the commitment of the school to use the External Review documents to engage all of the school stakeholders. In addition, stakeholder surveys and the goal builders are designed to be used on a regular basis as important data sources for the continuous improvement process. Contact our office for additional assistance or information on available resources.
Accreditation Progress Report
The Accreditation Progress Report (APR) is a critical component of the accreditation process. The APR engages the school in a detailed review and analysis of the steps it has taken to address the “Opportunities for Improvement” and “Required Actions” documented by the External Review Team. Completing the APR helps the school focus and reflect on its continuous improvement efforts. After engaging all school stakeholders in meaningful dialogue, agreed upon specific goals, objectives, and plans with timelines will become an important component of the APR. This step is required for continued accreditation and is a component of the five year cycle that is completed two years following the External Review.  Contact our office for additional information or resources to help with the APR.
