AdvancED Montana Fall Conference a Huge Success!

Clapping

Over 100 Montana Educators attended the AdvancED Montana Fall Conference in Bozeman in September. The conference focused on school improvement and best practices. Molly Funk, AdvancED Field consultant from Michigan was the keynote for the conference and provided attendees with links between best practices in classrooms and the AdvancED Standards and Protocols. On Tuesday, the Bozeman Public Schools were showcased in the Montana Best Practices Showcase and presented a variety of best practices linked to the AdvancED Standard including a Chromebook project to a vibrant connection to community partnerships.

At the awards luncheon on Tuesday, the following schools were presented five-year accreditation plaques and honored as the first in Montana to complete AdvancED External Reviews:  Beaverhead County High School, Arlee High School, Intermountain, Sidney High School and Trapper Creek Job Corps.

Jay Eslick, Superintendent of the Chinook Public Schools, was named the AdvancED Excellence in Education award recipient for the 2013-2014 by the AdvancED Montana Council. Jay was nominated for this award for his service and commitment to school improvement and his service to the Northwest Accreditation Commission as past state committee president and also as past president of NWAC.

This conference was co-hosted by the Educational Leadership Departments at Montana State University and the University of Montana. Thank you to both Universities.

Next fall’s conference is slated for September 28-29 at the Bozeman Holiday Inn.  Please mark your calendars with this important date.

Sincerely,

Daniel Sybrant, Ed.D.
Director, AdvancED Montana

Hamilton Public Schools Applies for System Accreditation
Hamilton Public Schools recently became the first Class A school in Montana to apply for School System Accreditation through AdvancED.  This rigorous process includes all schools in the school system in the accreditation process.  They will complete their readiness review in January and start preparing for an AdvancED School System External Review in two years.   Hamilton now joins Chinook, Colstrip, Darby and Troy Public Schools as the only Montana schools seeking this rigorous national accreditation model.

Congratulations to Hamilton on taking this significant step.
Montana Board of Education Grants Variance
Nine Montana AdvancED accredited schools received an official variance to use only the AdvancED school improvement process.  This variance now reduces duplication of efforts for these schools with regards to the AdvancED process and the state process.  AdvancED Montana is continuing to work with the Montana Office of Public Instruction to find additional ways to find alignment between the two accreditation processes.  For more information as to how to apply for this Variance to Standard, contact AdvancED Montana Director, Dr. Daniel Sybrant at 888.413.3669, ext. 5776.
