Volume 9

January 2014

As we welcome the spring semester, some Illinois schools and school systems are preparing for their External Review. We’re also eagerly anticipating your External Review and are excited to see your continuous improvement efforts first-hand. We look forward to seeing the everyday happenings of your school and the learning environment that you have created for your students. We know your commitment to the accreditation and continuous improvement processes will yield results that you can be proud of throughout the school year and beyond.

In fact, we have found that when schools and school systems use their External Review as a school improvement tool, it helps them pinpoint specific areas for improvement and celebrate areas of achievement. The benefits of your External Review don’t end with the review. You can continue to use the AdvancED Standards, Protocol and ASSIST™ to maximize your school improvement efforts all year around.

We understand the importance of taking what you have learned from the previous year and from your External Review and using it to build upon a continuous improvement journey. The AdvancED Standards, Protocol and ASSIST are the perfect trio of tools and resources to help guide you on that journey. We hope you will take advantage of these tools today for the ultimate benefit of your students. If you have questions about our continuous improvement resources or accreditation protocol, please don’t hesitate to contact our office. We are here to support you every step of the way. Please watch for future announcements in coming months. We’ll be sharing information about some exciting enhancements coming to AdvancED to help you improve your school and school system more quickly than ever.

Again, welcome back and best wishes for a successful semester and continuous improvement journey. We look forward to providing service to you and your school community.

All the Best,
Becky Densmore

Six Million Surveys through ASSIST

More than six million students, parents and teachers have completed AdvancED surveys about the quality of their educational institutions. This represents a total of over 169 million ratings and open-ended responses that AdvancED has collected to questions about the experience stakeholders have had with their school or school system. The surveys are available to AdvancED accredited institutions for free through ASSIST™ (Adaptive System of School Improvement Support Tools)—AdvancED’s web-based school improvement system.

Surveys have been administered across the United States and around the world by public and private schools and school systems. The surveys are offered both online and in paper version and in multiple languages. Additionally, the survey content is customized for students, parents and staff at all grade levels. Analysis of their data by each institution yields a rich source of information and insights into the opportunities institutions have to improve and deliver high quality education that meets the needs and expectations of their constituents. If you haven’t done so, please login to ASSIST today to learn more and begin using the surveys.
