Welcome to the 2013-14 School Year!
I’m Dale Kleinert, former Superintendent of Schools in the Moscow School District, and I would like to sincerely welcome all of you as I begin to serve you in my new role as AdvancED Idaho’s Director.   On July 1, I sat down at the table with Vikki Reynolds to discuss how we can continue to serve Idaho’s schools in the seamless manner that Vikki has provided over the years.

Before you get worried about the changes, please be assured that Vikki will continue to support you in a critical role as Administrative Assistant for the AdvancED/NWAC accreditation process in Idaho.  Our primary goal remains to serve each of you with all of your school improvement and accreditation needs.  We have a lot of beneficial tools and resources to support you such as ASSIST™ our a state-of-the art, web-based system for supporting continuous improvement that marries the requirements, duties and functions of effective school improvement, accreditation and compliance into a single, seamless tool. Vikki and I are really excited about what this year will bring.  Please feel free to contact our office for all of your school improvement and accreditation needs.  We're available to assist you anytime you need.  Welcome back and have a great school year.

Sincerely,

Dale Kleinert
AdvancED Idaho, Director

AdvancED Transition

As most of you know, last year the Board of the Northwest Accreditation Commission (NWAC) voted to become an accreditation division of AdvancED.  We have gone through a full year of transition with training, External Reviews and familiarization of the rich and robust resources available through AdvancED.

We would especially like to thank the schools who took the plunge and hosted External Reviews this last school year.  Our Field Consultants, Lead Evaluators, External Review Team members and host schools deserve a huge thank you for their dedication and hard work.  The process was positive, and the schools that completed their reviews now have information that can guide their school improvement and accreditation protocol into the future.

2013-14 Accreditation Requirements
All schools will be required to update their demographic information and the Executive Summary in ASSIST, which will fulfill the 2013-14 accreditation requirements for those schools who are not hosting an External Review.   All schools are required to complete the two sections (Demographics and Executive Summary) no later than October 15.  This required annual information will be reviewed by our state council at their October 21 meeting.   Schools who will host the External Review during the 2013-14 school year participated in a specialized training in June to learn about their additional requirements.  External Reviews are scheduled throughout the school year, much the same as in the past.  If you have questions about the requirements, please call our office.
Fall Accreditation Meeting Dates
Please plan to attend the Regional Fall Accreditation Meeting in your area. The dates, locations and agenda are listed below.  DON’T MISS THIS IMPORTANT MEETING!

The agenda for the meetings will include continued training to use the new AdvancED ASSIST tool.  ASSIST will be the major focus of the Fall Regional Meetings in September (see dates above).  We will review the instructions to update the required on-line Demographics and Executive Summary and we plan to provide training to access and complete staff, patron and student surveys.  In addition, we will provide training to begin working in the goal and plan section within ASSIST.  The survey, goal and plan components are optional this year; however, it will be very helpful to get these started especially for those schools who have External Reviews scheduled for 2014-15.  Click here to see additional information regarding the meetings from the AdvancED Idaho web page under the Resources tab.
Reminders and To Dos...
Here are a few important reminders and to dos:
Access Codes
If you have lost your access code, please email your Regional Coordinator with the name and position of the person in your school (preferably the principal) who will be authorized to access your school data.  Your unique access code will be issued via reply email to your designee along with instructions to access ASSIST.

Exemplary Schools Awards
Once again Idaho will be accepting nominations for Exemplary Schools Awards.  Please contact Vikki Reynolds for criteria and application information. Deadline for applications is October 10.

External Review Schedule
External Reviews are the on-site reviews required of all NWAC/AdvancED schools/school systems every five years.  To see the school year scheduled for your review, go to your school link in ASSIST (using the Access Code discussed above).  The date for your next review will be listed.  You will be contacted by the AdvancED Idaho staff approximately one year in advance to begin the process.  You are encouraged to use the services such as surveys and planning tools throughout your term of accreditation.  There also is a schedule of on-site reviews on the Idaho website.
New Schools
For those schools who are seeking Northwest Commission Accreditation for the first time, please visit the AdvancED website or refer to the Idaho State Department Accreditation website.  The initial step will require completion of the application available on the AdvancED website by October 1, 2013 along with submission of a $350.00 application fee and $725 membership fee to Northwest Commission/AdvancED as well as $100.00 Idaho Accreditation Initial Review Fee to the Idaho State Accreditation Committee (IDSAC).  Once your application and fees have been received, a Readiness Review will be scheduled by the IDSAC Regional Committee members.

AdvancED, the home of NCA CASI, NWAC and SACS CASI, is dedicated to
advancing excellence in education worldwide.
