2012-2013 Excellence in Education Award Winner Announced

florida delores sapp
The Florida Council is pleased to recognize Dr. Delores (Dody) W. Sapp as the AdvancED Florida Excellence In Education Award winner. This prestigious state-level award is presented by AdvancED to one individual in Florida who has demonstrated unparalleled leadership in promoting and advancing excellence in education. Those who know Dr. Sapp are truly impressed with her leadership skills and her total commitment to education excellence. Dr. Sapp received her B.A. in Elementary Education from Stetson University in 1969 and later received her M.ED in Guidance and Counseling from Stetson University in 1971. After receiving her Ed.S. from Stetson in 1982, Dr. Sapp received her Ed.D. in the area of Administration and Supervision from the University of Central Florida in 1984.

Dody’s level of educational experience spans over 43 years at the classroom level, school-based administrator level and district level. When talking with her former students, teachers, assistant principals and professional colleagues, they all talk about her high expectation for excellence. On more than one occasion, her former assistant principals talk passionately about her mentoring skills and her willingness to provide opportunities to enhance their leadership skills and curriculum knowledge. In reviewing Dr. Sapp’s school-based experiences, one will note that her exemplary leadership was the driving force that enabled Sunrise Elementary School to be named as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 2001. As the principal of New Smyrna Beach Middle School, Dr. Sapp’s school was selected to be the pilot middle school for the Volusia County Middle School Implementation Initiative. The school also was recognized by The Council for Education Change as one of the high performing schools that was listed in Florida School Report’s Best Practices Study.  Click here to continue reading about Dr. Sapp from the News section of the AdvancED Florida web page.

Two Million Surveys Completed through ASSIST™
More than two million students, parents and teachers have completed AdvancED surveys about the quality of their educational institutions. This represents a total of 68 million ratings and open-ended responses that AdvancED has collected to questions about the experience stakeholders have had with their school or school system.

The surveys are available to AdvancED accredited institutions for free through AdvancED’s web-based school improvement system--ASSIST. Required as part of AdvancED accreditation beginning in January 2013, the surveys were offered as an optional component between March 2012 and December 2012. Surveys have been administered across the United States and around the world by public and private schools and school systems. The surveys are offered both online and in paper version and in multiple languages. Additionally, the survey content is customized for students, parents and staff at all grade levels. Analysis of their data by each institution will yield a rich source of information and insights into the opportunities institutions have to improve and deliver high quality education that meets the needs and expectations of their constituents. If you haven’t done so, please log in to ASSIST today to learn more and begin using the surveys.
