Accreditation External Review Trainings Coming in June

 Learn and Lead Keys
The AdvancED Idaho Managing Office currently is offering important regional training opportunities for those schools who are scheduled for an External Review during the 2014-15 school year. Building administrators and other school staff members who will have primary responsibility for preparing the internal review are strongly encouraged to attend one of the day long sessions that start at 9:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. The goal of the training is to provide all of the information necessary to conduct a successful review experience for the host school and the External Review Team. Participants also will have the opportunity to practice entering information in the digital environment that now is completely online. All of the training will be led by Dale Kleinert, AdvancED Idaho Director. Administrators and teams can choose to attend any of the regional training if there is a date conflict in their home region. A registration fee of $50 per person will be assessed to cover lunch, refreshments and materials for the workshop. Click on your region to register.

Continuous Improvement Reporting Flexibility

As many of you know, the AdvancED Idaho Council has been working alongside our Idaho Accreditation Office with the Idaho State Department of Education (ISDE) to develop a partnership that would provide flexibility for three star schools to meet state continuous improvement planning and reporting accountability requirements. This partnership would eliminate duplication for three star schools that now are using the WISE tool for continuous improvement and AdvancED ASSIST™ (Adaptive System of School Improvement Support Tools) for accreditation.

We have recently formalized our partnership with the ISDE and all three star schools under External Review during the 2014-15 school year will have the option to pilot the ASSIST tool as their continuous improvement planning and accreditation tool. The pilot schools have been contacted and most will soon be in the process of completing their applications to participate in the pilot. We would like to thank everyone who advocated for this partnership, and we will keep you posted as it progresses.

2013-14 External Review Status
All of our Idaho 2014-15 External Reviews now are complete. Fifty-two Idaho schools participated in External Reviews this year, and by all accounts, everyone was well prepared and gained exceptional professional advice from the External Review Teams. The teams usually consist of five to six professional peers who spend two days in each school learning, observing, interviewing and deliberating in order to provide a quality External Review Report for each school.

We would like to thank the External Review schools and the review teams for their work and professional dedication in providing a positive experience. All of the schools under review have been recommended for continued accreditation by AdvancED Idaho Council. Schools should have or will be receiving their External Review Reports in the near future.

External Review Fee Structure Effective 2014-2015
When an institution hosts an External Review, AdvancED assesses an External Review fee to cover costs of the Lead Evaluator and administrative costs related to the review. In the past, an institution was invoiced this fee after the External Review. This year, this procedure has been changed so that an institution hosting an External Review during the 2014-2015 school year will receive a separate invoice for the External Review with the fee due in August of 2014. The External Review fee will apply only during the school year in which the institution hosts an External Review with AdvancED. This change in procedure will assist institutions with their budgeting and planning processes. Please make sure that the appropriate personnel for your institution are aware of this change in procedure.
AdvancED Tools Available For Schools
The Northwest Accreditation Commission has been an accrediting division of AdvancED for two years.  Forty percent of our Idaho accredited schools now have used the AdvancED review process. Administrators and team members who have used the process have expressed that the support from the AdvancED Idaho Managing Office and the tools used for the review have provided an important, focused, reflective and useful assessment for schools.

The internal review uses a wide variety of tools that are all included in the accreditation fee such as Stakeholder Survey Instruments, Student Performance Diagnostic Workbooks and a research based Self Assessment that demands self-reflection, collaboration and brainstorming to be successful. From the results of the Self Assessment and External Review Report, school leaders are able to use the Goal, Plan and Report Builders provided by AdvancED for ongoing school improvement efforts after the External Review.
