New Tools Available to Support You

As many of you already know, much has changed with AdvancED this year. We have new software (eProve™) which replaces ASSIST™, new Performance Standards for schools and systems, many new online school improvement tools, and a new Engagement Review process. Along with these changes, we no longer are requiring the annual submission of the Executive Summary that schools have submitted for the past five years.

The Executive Summary was, in our view, a useful summary, but our new eProve software offers more flexibility and comprehensive tools to support end-to-end continuous improvement solutions.

At this time, we are implementing new processes and tools, helping our Lead Evaluators become proficient with these new tools, and beginning our Engagement Reviews in November with schools that volunteered for an early review. We realize there may be a learning curve, but we have no doubt that the new tools will help schools significantly and will be beneficial to every institution’s continuous improvement journey.
As a potential replacement for the Executive Summary, we may follow the lead of some other states that simply request schools to submit annually their AdvancED Assurances. You may recall that these Assurances are five “yes/no” questions with attachments required for Assurance #3 (Safety Plan) and #5 (School Improvement Plan). If you have a strong opinion on this possible future direction, please let me know.

This school year, we will use the new processes and tools with approximately 75 Oregon schools during their reviews. Soon, we will finalize our plans for training our other 300+ schools on these processes and tools. Please know that the resources mentioned in this newsletter can assist you in better understanding the new surveys, inventories, eleot® 2.0 and other items that can help you with your improvement efforts.

Finally, please know that accreditation in Oregon has never had more useful tools to help schools than the new tools being offered. In the distant past, what was too often a paper exercise was replaced the past four years with more comprehensive and authentic online tools and rubrics. Many of you served on review teams during these years and experienced the AdvancED process. This year marks another huge leap forward in the improvement of our resources. The eventual result? Tools that your school can use for improvement efforts that are already free with your annual membership in the AdvancED Improvement Network.

We look forward to helping you with your future continuous improvement efforts. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.
