AdvancED Wyoming Changes
Hello and welcome to another bright new school year! There are amazingly exciting things on the horizon for both Wyoming school systems and AdvancED Wyoming.  We bid a fond farewell to our AdvancED Associate Director, Brad Jacobson in June.  He retired from AdvancED and plans to spend many happy days in his beautiful home near Star Valley. We wish him a happy retirement and hope to hear from and see him from time to time.

Fall Continuous Improvement Conference

Jacobs
As usual, the AdvancED Wyoming Managing Office is extremely excited about the session offerings for this year’s Fall Continuous Improvement Conference. The conference is September 29-30 in Cheyenne at the beautiful Little America Resort. Our keynote speaker is back by popular demand—Heidi Hayes Jacobs. Dr. Jacobs’ appearance is sponsored by GEAR UP Wyoming.

Dr. Jacobs has the answers that are sought by many educational leaders. She is an internationally recognized expert in the fields of curriculum and instruction having consulted nationally and internationally on issues and practices pertaining to curriculum mapping, dynamic instruction and 21st century strategic planning.

Watch for the conference invitations to be delivered via email. To ensure that all new personnel receive our monthly newsletter along with conference invitations, please update your demographic information in the AdvancED Adaptive System of School Improvement Support Tools (ASSIST™).

Annual Progress Reports Due

If you hosted an AdvancED External Review in school years 2012-2013 and 2013-2014, please plan to address any Improvement Priorities (formerly Required Actions) that were received by using ASSIST to address the areas that the External Review Teams found to be Improvement Priorities and then report on the progress made on those goals and strategies.

Geri Fitzgerald and Dr. Bohling will provide training to help with understanding how to complete these reports. However, it is important to know that if the school system hosted an External Review in the Fall 2012, these reports are due December 1. School systems that hosted an External Review in Spring 2013 will complete and submit the report in May 2015. For now, please place these dates on the calendar; begin accessing the report in ASSIST and familiarize yourself with the Goal Builder.  Next,  meet with the system's continuous improvement team members and document what will be implemented and what has been accomplished to address areas identified as Improvement Priorities.

Update Demographics

Continuous improvement is just that—continuous. AdvancED Wyoming has much to share with each Wyoming school system and its leaders ongoing. To ensure that all members of the system leadership team receive the information needed to remain on the continuous improvement path, be certain to update all new leaders’ demographic information in ASSIST.  This ensures that the AdvancED monthly newsletters and invitations to trainings and conferences continue without interruption and you remain in the loop in regards to expected continuous improvement. All updates should be completed by September 1. Please visit the AdvancED website, log in to ASSIST and update your demographics now.

2014 External Reviews

This year’s External Reviews are occurring in the following school systems:

Uinta #1, Uinta #4, Uinta #6, Lincoln #1, Lincoln #2, Sweetwater #1, Sweetwater #2, Sublette #1, Sublette #9, Teton #1.

Let’s wish our colleagues a valuable review and the out-of-state team members a pleasant stay in our beautiful state. On any Wyoming External Review Team, half of the team comes from in-state.  Thank you to all of those who volunteered to serve on a team! The other half of the team is made up of out-of-state colleagues. This balance adds to the richness of the External Review experience.

While past good performance can certainly be acknowledged, AdvancED is about looking forward. The External Review Team will assist each system in achieving the next level of performance. AdvancED External Reviews are diagnostic in nature. It is only through continuously modifying performance that education can continue to improve. If a system “rests on its laurels,” it will never improve. Let’s challenge ourselves to get better for our students every day, every year!

AdvancED, the home of NCA CASI, NWAC and SACS CASI, is dedicated to
advancing excellence in education worldwide.
